how should i mount my speakers

i just bought some speakers and i wanted to either build (or buy) 6X9 boxes for the back, or i could cut out the old mounts a little bit. what would i cut it with, is it a good idea? i heard tinsnips work its just a thin layer of metal and then some cloth. THANKS FOR THE HELP
