i had a sony like that....about 16 yrs. ago!!!

2 Orion 280gx or sx on 4 15" pyle drivers in a 20 cubic foot ported box. the year 1987-8 back when Mr.W. Harris use to cruise Cooper in the hearst and win every stereo comp around, with Orion.

Most people on this forum were probably nothing but a twinkle in their daddy's eye when this was going on. Circa mid to late 70's.
Most of the people on this forum aren't even that old. More like their parents were still in grade school at that time.
I guess I run somewhat of an old school system myself by today's standards but most of the prominent companies that were making the premium stuff in the mid 90's have gone out of business or been bought out and are selling garbage.
IMO there's old-school, i. e. classic, and then there's just old. A '69 Camaro is old-school. A '69 Datsun is just old. Most of the stuff you're talking about falls into the latter category. It's not a classic. If it were, there would be a demand for it now. There isn't. High end car audio didn't really come about until the mid 80s at the earliest and realisitcally the late 80s early 90s. Amps especially from that era are still in high demand and commanding great prices.

20+20 sparkomatic under dash amp on a 12" piano speaker.

then a few years later....

linear 175 yellow amp on a panasonic home speaker.

had a few pawnshop 45"s pioneer gmXXX amps on pyle 10" subs.

bought my first real amp in early 90's punch 200. loved the caraudio review "if darthvader had a system it would have multiple punch 200's" sold me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the two best 10" subs were jl10w1's vs pioneer.

dimond "hex" components came out and that good review is how they got started.

and kicker only made subs......that sounded like chit.

everyone i knew that had kicker or any store that i heard them in, sounded horrible. alot of mech. noise or somthing hitting inside the sub mabee tinsel slap? i dint know too much back then, all i knew was that when you turned it up dint sound good at all.

Being that im only 20, i'd call 96/97 oldschool lol. My Alpine MRV-T757 was made and dated on 1996, and the subs its powering are like 95-97 models from Orion, the 2NT series. Both the subs and that amp are awesome, and the amp is way under rated at like 175w/rms at 4ohm.

Saw this old post you'd put up a few years ago. I have a new, unused, never installed Sony CDX-J10 that I got from my neighbor. Seems her husband bought it over 15 years ago and never installed it. After they got divorced she was just going to throw it out but gave it to me instead. I've posted it to my local craigslist:

Old-school car audio: Sony CDX-J10
