How much louder is an hdc3 vs. type r

Is there maybe a cheaper amp that wouldnt' be pushing the sub so hard?
As much as I do want spl, I also don't want to burn up my sub. i've heard the aq1200 is putting out 1400 watts.

Maybe something in the 800-1000 watt range? I'd be willing to sacrifice some deebeez to have the peace of mind that my sub isn't frying up in the trunk.
yea but you wont be getting 1400 watts daily....so the bl, q, R, or hdc3 IMO will be ok on that amp as long as gains are correct

my single hdc3 15 off a sundown saz-1500d was louder than 2 type r 12's off the same sundown 1500d! the hdc315 was in a chambered t-line and the 2 type r-'s were in a chambered t-line as well!!

It looks like you like the type r.... so find one on ebay (a dual 2 ohm model) and wire down to 1 ohm.
Then run this budget amp with it... http://www.cadencestore.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=125&idproduct=380 - new w 2yr warranty

~900 - 1000 watts to a type r should be pretty **** nice in the right box...
yea it does seem like you are leaning towards the type R and the amp above is a great budget amp..... probly your best bet for staying brand new

just remember that the AQ 1200 is $249 shipped and will give you more output, and even the opportunity to upgrade in the future

I have had both subs in my truck on a 2500.1, but haven't metered them. I could always throw my buddy's HDC3 (8 layer alum flatwound coil) back in, but it wouldn't be a real good comparison since the HDC3 is a dual 1 and my R is a dual 2. I liked the sound of the HDC3 better, but it took less power for the R to get loud compared to the HDC3. It really depends on how much power than you have on tap, imo.

More output as far as what?? Numbers?? Don't see many people runnin AQ's, and, OR winning comps with em... like ever

I think I could get the type R and cadence for about 310$/shipped.

The audioque+hdc3 would be 518/shipped.

Sounds like the type R is more efficient. If this is the case and these two setups will have simliar output, then I think i'll go with the R. I had thought he audioque would completely blow the the hdc3 out of the water.
