How much louder is an hdc3 vs. type r

Wow, I get such quick responses on this forum : 0.

Thanks guys.

That's what I was wondering- I know i'm not giving the hdc nearly all it can take, while I'd be running the type r at closer to it's preffered power level.

The price difference in the sub is about 170$ including shipping costs, and the amp difference is probably going to be around 50.

Yes, I am cheap and would probably use 4 gauge wiring if I got the R, which would save me a few more dollars.

Main reason I dont' want to spend alot in this? I'm goin to college next year, where I won't be able to take the car. Of course I will be coming home alot, but i'm not sure if it's going to justify spending the money on it. I will have it my sophomore year however, which I am looking forward to.

I'd say I was expecting a bigger difference than what I'm hearing. This makes me lean towards the type R...

As a side note, the only other setup i've heard is an Fi Q off of a zx.1000.1. Would the type R be around this in terms of spl? I know it won't sound as good, but i'm mainly lookin for that bump ; ).

I'm not too limited, space wise. I was planning for a 2.5 ft^3 box (ported) give or take depending onthe sub. It's an 02 accord sedan.

I'd really like to buy new...I know I just said I wanted to stay cheap, but for other reasons I'd like to stick to new for now.

Guess i'm reallly leaning towards the type R then. While i'm at it- does anybody have a better recommendation for an amp? Price is my main concern. I'd consider the audioque, but isn't that quite a bit of power? As i'm still a "noob," I don't want to risk blowing out my sub right away from bad gain settings.

are you still wanting to stay new?

risk of blowing subs..........all the more reason to stick with a cheaper sub. No need to waste money on the "expensive" sub and then blow it. Thats want I don't get about this forum. People are suggesting fairly expensive systems to people realively new in the car audio game. I say experiment with the type r's and if you don't get what you want out of them, then buy the more expensive system. Not that the audioque is that much more expensive but it still counts.

the type-r can take the aq1200d all day if gains are set properly. There's a gain-setting tutorial on another forum, if you need the info for that hit me up and I'll point it out to you (I'm not gonna name another forum on CA.com tho)
