How much louder is an hdc3 vs. type r

I would take type-r's over the sdc2.5's, but that's just my opinion.
But going back to the HDC3 vs. the type-r, I wouldn't give a type-r more than 800-900 for daily. At that power level I believe the type-r would have the SPL edge. Past that though is when the HDC3 would really shine.
I don't think you would have that opinion if you ever used the SD2.5c. I do believe it is my favorite sub ATM. Type R's are OK. But in no way an SD2.5. And yes, I have used plenty of type ARRRRRGHSSSSS. I really don't know how you and Potts got those POS subs as loud as you did, with the consistancy you had.

One edge that the AQ has is that it is reconeable and the R isn't.
True that. But for $20 more than a recone, you can buy an entirely new type-r. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I've had a little experience with the 2.5's....

Great sub, sure, but nothing to write home about. I would take a type-r over the SD2.5 simply because I know what it is capable of and I can get them for $40 less than a SD2.5. Will they work for everybody, no. But I think I know what I'm doing when it comes to type-r's. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

You may not have had any luck with them, but I wouldn't blame it on the sub. Perhaps your setup just isn't geared towards type-r's? Low tuning and the right size enclosure really helps the type-rs shine. Try to get them to play above 50 hz and you'll run into serious problems.

Nobody can argue that the type-r isn't a great sub for the money, and capable of very good SPL numbers when put into the right setup. Just for comparison sake, my DD 9510F is only ~.2-.3 louder than my type-r in the same setup. The only noticeable difference is that the DD takes the power way better for long periods of time (streetbeat/bassrace/driveby).

I don't want to get into a pissing match about this though.

Thanks guys. I think i'm goin to go with a type R for now. Possibly the sd2.5, but I need to do a little more research.

Tommyk, for one 12" type R, what size/tuned box would you recommend? I was thinking 2.2ft^3 @32 hz. Would this be good for a daily setup?

2-2.2 cubes would work well.

Mannnn i used to think the EXACT same thing, like even when i had mine in my Civic and 2 15s in my Explorer they would never really like to play the upper stuff, but who can complain when the lows are OMG

But look as PStrumer............he has 4 12s in his Explorer and does 55s legal at around 53hz i believe, just bananas

For the money, ya just cant beat that with a stick;)

New idea:

I have no idea if this will work...not sure how to wire it but I thought I would ask. What if I got the cadence txa6004 which does:

4 Ohm RMS Power: 4 x 150 Watts @ 13.8 Volts

2 Ohm RMS Power: 4 x 300 Watts @ 13.8 Volts

4 Ohm Bridged RMS Power: 2 x 600 Watts

Does this mean I could bridge channels 3/4 to get 600 watts to my type R at 4 ohms, then use channels 1 and 2 for my front stage, 150 watts @ 4 ohms?

I'm pretty confused on how this would work, so anybody that can explain it to me, thank you!

Type R's are nice subs that can take moderate power and get very loud but as stated before they are a sub you will want to upgrade from as I did and I upgraded to a AQ and could not be happier they get a good bit louder can handle more power, sound better and last you a lifetime if you know what you are doing.
