How many watts to 12" RE SX

I have been looking for one of these for a while and actually think i will be purchasing an 06' 12" RE SX monday or tuesday. RE suggest 1000rms to it, but what do you guys with these as daily drivers feed them?

O.k. well searched and found lots of info. I am thinking 2.5ft^3 @ 32hz with hifonics 1606D for the 12"SX. If properly installed can it be louder than 12" L7? I had an 02' with like 700watts to it and it was pretty loud so am looking for an SQL sub now and do not want it to be more quite than my past setup. Should i be happy with this?
