How many watts from an old Rockford Fosgate 40x2?

I'm going out on a limb here and going to say

40 watts per channel

Total of 2 channels

Proper voltage, I'd say around 55-60 per channel as they were slightly underrated.

Ok, and how about being 2 ohm stable when bridged mono?

It seems like some of the old school amps (in general, not RF) were under rated... like a 22x2 amp doing a couple hundred watts bridged.

.

According to the owners manual it Dynamic power(14.4volts) is 175watts mono @ 4 ohms

80 watts x 2 @ 2 ohms,60 x 2 @ 4 ohms

Power at 12.6 volts is 20 x 2 @ 4 ohms

40 x 2 @ 2 ohms

80 x 1 @ 4 ohms

Yes,Rockford were great amps then. They could achieve great thing so long as you didnt starve them of power/voltage...here is a link to the owners manual...its a pdf file

this is what you got, there was punch 40, 40i, 40ix, 40x2. they just didnt change the amps design as frequently as they do today.

i wish all amps were rated like that today....
i agree, im from the os and it sickens me what has happened to amplifier ratings. wiped out a few competition classes along the way. no more 100w, 250w, 500w classes. that sucks, the 100w class was my personal favorite. you had to be very creative to do well in that class.

Hell yea!And if you had a 1000 watts you were pro...now a days 1000 watts just aint the same.It would be novice to say the least. We would need 3000watts today to even come close to back then

Hey all, how many watts can I get out of an old RF 40x2 amp. And is it 2 ohm stable when bridged mono?
Technically NO...But I ran mine at 2ohm bridged and it screamed. It worked but I was dumb then.I figured if it couldnt handle it..then the fuse would blow.Ive had a couple that held at and 2 ohm bridged but did have 1...a punch 200 dsm that only lasted about 3 months at 2 ohm then finally gave out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif...I personally wouldnt try it now on such a lovely amp

Thanks everyone for the info on this old Rockford, and thanks spnkysprky for the pdf file. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
