depends on the car and the size of the alt.. and how old the car is and the past electrical problems and the problems that are specific to that car.

how about giving us some more info.

Its a 1990 Jeep Cherokee. It has a 80 amp alt. I am going to probably be running about 1000 watts total with my system.

That will probably dim, I had 760 watts running through my 97 Pontiac which is an 80 amp alt too. Dimmed like crazy. I think even an 110 amp alt will dim at 1000 watts...

Do a big three wire upgrade and see where you stand after that.

My 110A has very minimal dimming at full volume -- ~1300w rms.

My old 75A had slight-moderate dimming w/~1000w.

Car had a lot of electronic options too.

I checked a '98 and it looks like either 90A or 110A.

Instead of purchasing an alternator, it may be cheaper to get an optima battery. FYI, Sears has a sale on optimas right now. I did the "big 3" my neon still dimmed with 2 hifonics brutus bx1500d, I purchased an optima in the trunk and vented it, to be safe and my lights dont dim no more. FYI, my stock alt is 85amps.

I was able to run 2 tantrum 1200.1's off of my stock alt with no dimming whatsoever. I need to buy one for my truck now. My system would kill my stock alt
