so i was just taking a dump when i started thinking about something i see happening all the while in the car audio enviroment... i started wondering until when SPL should be good for the people (like you and me)... and until when this should be called "music" and not just a blatant noise to annoy people around us and make us think 'uh how cool i am LOL am i rite?!" ?

well let me explain this better... so say you wanna listen to music... then 2 12"s or 2 15"s will be the BEEEEEST you should be using... can't really be listening to what's called "music" if you get louder than that IMO... besides, it screws up your hearing so badly it defeats the purpose of car audio hobby... so in a short period of time you will be using 4 Kicker Solo-X 18"s that will sound to you like one 12" Pioneer IMPP... i wonder why people get into this quest for the so badass SPL they struggle for... gets me thinking what's the purpose of car audio when you get blasted off if you stay in your car, so the only way you should be listening to your "music" is actually by being out of the car with the remote in your hand and by pressing 'Play' making the crowd around go WOOHOO! or something... now where's the music in all that? how can it gives you more pleasure than listening to the song you like, the best way you want like on a SQ enviroment? how long can someone enjoy this thing... im sure it would get old quite faster than any fashion that shows up everyday... i don't know, just a thought...

well now i shared my opinion about heavy SPL, let me know how many of you changing sides here already? i myself began as a kind of mix of SPL and SQ (now let me explain what SPL was to me... a single 15" or 2 10"s LOL)... time has passed as i grew up on this thing and i realized how pointless it is to have pure SPL, so now im just "one guy in the quest for SQ"...

well i still have a lot to learn i know, im a just a noobish around here trying to contribute with my little knowledge about all this stuff... btw i see most people here are deeply into SPL... and the SQ folks are quite lacking in here... what's this strange taste of heavy SPL americans have? i think americans have the biggest concentration of SPL heads among the rest of the world... what's with this regional difference?

i blame society //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

i look at spl kind of like having a nice car with a tons of hp... sure you're not going to take it to the max all the time, but its nice to know that you can if you want. i don't know if that made very much sense....... well it did to me

Sq is for the elderly...lol...u all know u want ur shit to be loud especially if ur showing of to someone...very little people are gonna say...man that sounds really good and what great quality....I dunno, just my opinion....I'm 18 btw so its prolly an age thing...I don't believe in sql all that much...I think u either want loud as **** or not...

everyone says "SQL" , but i guerentee that 99% of those "SQLers" like to show off how loud their system can get. Its just human nature to be proud of what u have and what it can do. I am one of those people.....once in a while i love to see how much flex i can get and how loud i can get, but at the same time i love to chill to some Radiohead and listen to the low and punchy bass at moderate to low volumes..

and no daily driver is going to go out and say, "yea i want subs that are pure SPL and no sound quality whatsoever" that is why we get the noobs always comin in here asking for a Loud sub but sounds good while at it.....

i myself have gone from realizing that i dont want SQ.....im more into SPL, or SQL to some of you.....

I have migrated to pure SQ in recent times. I don't show off and I don't care if my car mics low. I listen to my system and that's all that matters to me.

Seems like everyone into SQ always has to speak in a condescending tone when talking about SPL enthusiasts.

I agree with the car analogy. 99% of the time I'm in my truck, it's playing almost completely from the the front speakers. You'd never find me going down the road with it turned up. But, I still like to be able to put down mid 140's to show it off to others or have it serve as a demo vehicle to get box building jobs, etc.

SPL is a hobby, too. You can pick out almost any hobby and argue the practicality of it. There's a lot of interest in Canada and in certain parts of Europe, too. Guess you were shooting for the ignorant Americans being so involved in immature things, though.

Well said for a guy in Texas. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Car Audio is a hobby.

SPL is a hobby of Car Audio.

SQ is a hobby of Car Audio.

Each has their own strengths and weaknesses, and some people are just better suited to one or the other. I know people with systems that are loud and hell that couldn't do an SQ install at all. I can do a pretty good SQ install but can't get loud to save my life. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif It's a tradeoff.

ProjectPat: As you progress in this hobby you'll find things aren't always like that. At this point, I'm willing to be a a lot of the vets around here don't give a **** what people think of their setups.
