I was having some troubles on the hard beating songs with a tunes cranked with my voltage dipping into the high 10's 10.8-11.0 while driving on a certain song....
Im running about 2200ish rms on a 110amp alt, and a Optima blue top
I did the big 3, didnt really do much for voltage drops, but solved my dimming lights. For the last month Ive been researching spending like $600 on a HO alt, or like $350 on a big battcap battery. Today I looked under my engine bay and thought, hell, if I remove my MASSIVE oem airbox, I can probly fit another battery under the hood. SO I did, and instead of buying a $300+ battery, I decided to try one of the battery on sale at my local auto place.
Its a 1050 cranking amp battery, with 160minute reserve, biggest they had, that would fit. Im not battery expert, but I thought the battery reserve number was the most important, some were in the 70-90 range. The battery cost $79.99, a terminal was $6.99, and the piece of metal I bought form home depot was $4.99 for amy battery hold down.
Heres the pics, excuse the blue cable going to the 2nd battery, I havent ziptied it out of the way yet.
Bluetop, lotta power wire tapped from one source:crazy:
2nd battery, tie down painted black, bolted secure as fawk in place, doesnt budge
So the results, went for a drive, and instead of the 10.8-11.0 I was getting on this song before, The voltage was now 11.8-12.2. Gained almost a whole volt, I thought that was pretty good, and Im definetely happy with that voltage
Mind you it only dips into the 11's on the constant bass songs, most songs it never goes below 13.5ish, rock songs usually stay above 14.
Just thought Id post this up, dont have to spend alot of money to fix all problems. I know I couldve bought a HO alt or a big battery and been set, but it wasnt really necessary in my case, and I dont ever plan on upgrading.....
