How I feel about Car Audio...

I beleive this is a fair representation on how many of us feel, at one point or another, at one or another stage in life. We all share a common passion, whether your an accessory fanatic, hardcore competitor, or enthusiastic hobbyist, this whole way of living, driving, understanding can sometimes make you feel on top of the world, and sometimes make you feel burried 6 feet under. At this point, approximately 11 months into my mobile electronics "career", i'm fed up. Many of us, MANY OF US on this site withhold so much knowledge that can not be seen by the human eye, and would take literally days to explain to the common person. We are not given credit for it, rarely does it shine.

Not us, who keep our windows up and bass down in residentials, not us who can wire up basically any 12 volt electronic, NOT US who could repair an amp get credit, no not us. But the punks, they do. They are the ones that although we compete along national levels, and never once have played the subwoofer above 130 decibels within 1 mile of a house, makes our reputation of simply owning car audio products one of a "kid". Sure im a "kid", sure many of us ARE under the age of 18, but we are not kids. Those punks are the kids. I beleive my feelings will grow only with age, to the point to which I will feel weary about putting a subwoofer in my car at the age of 25 because I might be looked upon as one of those punk kids.

I could go on, but I just want to let all the ones on the forum with the knowledge and expirience that I hold you to the highest respect, and to the ones learning, you also. To the ones showing off, disrupting others and being total morons: stop. Become educated, understand why your speaker makes noise, understand why sparks fly when you touch that red and black wire together, and understand what you are doing to the reputation of car audio as we know it.

I'd just like to say thanks ... you saved me a lot of typing.

And I agree, 100%.

What you say is completely true, but unfortunately, there's nothing we can really do about it. I am content with the state of car audio as it relates to me. I know that I "boom responsibly", and that I am not one of the "punk kids." How other people feel is no dirt off my shoulder; they're entitled to their convictions just like we are. I refuse to alter my state of living based on how other people perceive my actions. If they want to label me as a punk kid, so be it, I know that I am not, and that's really all that matters.

And on the same subject, all of this comes with the territory. You can't enter the car audio world without knowing that there is a great disdain for it. If you enter the world knowing and willingly, then to some extent you have to accept whatever assumptions come with it. It's like someone who wants to become an actor and a celebrity, and then complains when the media hounds them. You knew about it beforehand, you should be prepared to deal with it.

Just know that you are a better person than the people you speak of.

Ok, I'm at work & I don't have time to read all this stuff. Just to squeeze in a quick post, I am glas this place is here. Lots of cool stuff & helps me with situations I may come into as far as installs & stuff.

Screw those idiots.

matt - i agree that the people who know alot dont get the credit they deserve. I remember when i didnt kno jack shit u helped me out all the time with all my dumb questions. Thanx - peace

These forums have taught me so much. Before here i didnt even know what the hell a distro was, or ohms law. I agree about the forums. in the 8-9 months ive been here ive noticed alot of " be heard from 3 blocks away". I personally get pissed when im sitting at home and i hear someones system at 10:30 at night. not because im sleeping (more like 3:30 im sleeping), but because theyre being so **** irresponsible.

I've learned a lot from these forums, and the people in the car audio world that I respect are the ones who know a lot about the subject. Anybody can pay a shop to get them an awesome install that will hit a crazy SPL score, but my respect will go to the guys who built that setup, not the punk kid who decides to share his music of choice with the world at 3AM.

Although I honestly feel that the more annoying (and common) form of noise pollution is the fart cannon epidemic, I do agree that car audio is on the verge of getting out of control. Unfortunately, passing tougher laws isn't going to solve the problem unless the laws on the books get enforced. I think that if cops took such complaints a bit more seriously, perhaps there would be more responsibility among the bass-heads out there.

I pretty much agree with everyting except the ""

I will feel weary about putting a subwoofer in my car at the age of 25 because I might be looked upon as one of those punk kids.
I am 30 years old now, I have a system with 3 Subs and I have had several systems each with a few thousand watts. My neighbors, don't even know I have a system.... When I get off the hWY, (about a mile from my house) I always turn it down to where I think it can't be heard outside the ride...

But, Really I could care less what anyone thinks about me having a system or multiple subs... I'm not goona let some stupid kids ruin my listening enjoyment or my hobby/passion...

So don't worry about putting in a sub, if you practice what ya preach about the levels and windows up, no one would know anyway...

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif ... Keep on installin man and help others to be find the 12volt Nirvanna or the 8fold path of Car Audio Enlightenment!!!!

Yes, there will always be idiots, always. I suppose because electronics is my hobby and lifestyle it makes me mad to know a person can drop over $1000 in car stereo and not know the whats and whys. I'm going to be doing an independent study in school for a half year on car audio and electronics, hopefully just learning all I can, setting up some mini competitions when the season rolls around, and promoting the use of designated competition areas as places to "outbump" someone instead of the school parking lot.

So, yeh, thats about it.. I nor a single forum, or single state even could change the stereotype of a person in a car with a rattling trunk.. I'm just glad that if someone looks down upon my hobby I could throughly explain every aspect to them, not just "its loud, so its cool".

Smullen- Thats a good thing to hear.. I will do as I please, lol, while respecting others. Weary I might be, because some people will never understand, nothing will hold me back.. This year I think im going to try and basically disprove people, show kids and adults alike what some of us are actually about when we talk about sound and mobile audio.

I think im done, and as of now I think that I will be back in the CA scene like I once was. Just need them RE8's and an idea for next season!

All I have to say is I agree 100% just like everyone else. But I have a few things to say on my own as well. I remember the first time I came here, I didnt know jacksh!t about car audio except the wiring parts. Thats something ive always been great at no matter what. But the specifics on each company, how good they were, what kinds of boxes to put subs in according to their Thiele Small perameters and so and so forth. I can honestly say that I love this hobby, noone is gonna take it away from me, if they make it illegal to own a system other than whats factory well then by god I guess ill be in jail for the rest of my life. If I had a choice I would love to do this stuff for the rest of my life. I would love to do that so much. Me and one of my friends have already said that if it was at all possible that when we got out of high school he would take business courses in college and I would go to some sort of car audio school and we would open a shop. The very thought of that brings the biggest smile to my face because for me, that would just rule. But I wouldnt be into as much if it werent for you guys and all the help youve given me and the help that I may have given. I guess what im trying to say is that I love you guys (in a not homosexual kind of way lol). Thanx for everything.

People who want peace and Quite always win. I dont think they should always win but they do. We are no longer alowed to have late night partys as it disturbed those around you. If you are disturbing people, they can call the police. The police come to your house and tell you to stop, you dont stop and you get arrested. The is because people dont want it and have had laws made. These law are like rabbits and keep getting more and more. I for one have my system for me and myself only. I turn it up any chance I get, But the only chances I get are when I am on the freeway or at comps. this is fine with me as others have rights not to hear my system. Now when people do not care about others wishes the the other's got out and make new laws. We all know that in most places we are not to be heard from 100 yards, some like here is 50 feet. I have heard that one place has a law that if they hear you at all. The fines are stiff in some places. Here the fines are very high and even inpound your car. One day they will tell us that a system cant be over 50rms total. Then what are we going to do. You can be driving down the road with your system off and get pulled over for some other law, and a cop will say I think you have too much power to that system and inpound your car. The laws are getting harder and harder and we will all have to pay one way or another. If the people keep upsetting people and saying they dont care we will see this! I am upset that I oneday wont be able to have a system because others rock the streets. I could out rock most but dont need to prove it to you are anyone, but I do want to keep it. You may call those that are screwing it up punks as those that dont care dont care about you either. They will never know how much damage they are doing till one day they lose the right to it. Mark it down as it will all just disappear if it keeps up like this.
