how hot should a deck run?

My KDC-X879 got pretty warm as well in 2 different vehicles. I guess they just run warm, I'm sure that big screen has something to do with that. Turning off the internal amp helps. The CDs never got too hot to hold though.

My Alpine deck gets hot as fuk

Sometimes after a hard night of playing it at high volume the buttoms almost burn my fingers..

My sony heats up. The CD's are warm to the touch. But this is normal with minimal ventiallation and heavy driving of the unit. It should not be so hot to keep you from touching it though. Unless you're just being a baby.

ive got an excelon x979 deck, and when i eject cd's after i've been slamming, they're really hot, hot enough i dont want to keep holding them. this normal? its only about 80-90 degrees here now.
My x679 would do that, it would even go into protect mode, people over on carstereo thought that it was because the speakers were too powerful for the deck...but I dunno.

You can put a XXX on the deck and it should not cause any problems with the HU. As long as you do not go below the rated OHM lvl, or over drive the deck. But that's common sense...

Well wtf then, why was my HU amp goin into protect mode? I guess I don't really care anymore now that i have an external amp, but it would still be interesting to figure out why.

What were the final ohm loads on each channel? How high did you normally run the volume? Where did you connect the power/ground wire from? And how cramped was the air space where the HU was installed?

Ohms was fine, could be high volume (crappy sony's need alot to get loud), power/ground fine, airspace could be it also.
