How hard do you drive your JL audio's

set your gains properly to avoid distortion
if u want more power to it increasing ur gain is just gonna lead to blown speakers. to properly increase power, u need a new amp.
I have the gain about 1 third of the way up. I get a reading of about 45 volts. If I crank it to 2 thirds, i get about 60 volts and about 1 fifth from max gain i get 80. All the way I get 90. Thats with a 0 db 60 hz tone through my Ipod at about %80 vol...

3 cubes per 18?
Yup, JL said 3-4 sealed and 4-6 ported. I went sealed and made the box about .30cft biger to make room for driver displacement... Althoe I had to take about an inch and a half off the height of one to make it fit but I dont think that hurt the footage too much //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

So far it sounds like I can overdrive them by about 1/3 their power.

Mr brother is giving his 2 12 12w3v2's about 500 watts rms each and they are rated at 300 watts rms each, they take the power with no problems.
Each sub is rated 300rms so 2 = 600rms. Technically your underpowering them.

I have 2 12v3s with a slash 500, whats the max rms these babies can take?

With a 0dB tone used for setting the gains you will never get anywhere near full power to the subs with music. Use a -3 or -6 dB tone from a real CD (not your iPod or any other mp3 source) to get closer to max unclipped powerto the subs with music.

Because of the transient nature of music compared to the steady nature of the test tones used to rate thermal power handling, you can usually run a good bit more power to subs than the rated power without worrying about cooking the coils. You still have to take excursion limits into consideration because you can kill a sub just as dead by bottoming it hard as you can by toasting the coils. Excursion is typically what is going to limit the power you can run to subs with music. Mechanical power handling is going to depend on frequency and the enclosure that the subs are in.

If I set the gains on my 500/1 with a DMM my 6x9 hit harder.

are you telling me I need a 1000/1 to power my 10W6?

This is getting stupid.

This is getting stupid, or does JL just ****?
NOOB? Do you know what flaming is?? LOL... that is a brave thing to say in here... JL DOES NOT ****... It will pound the hell out of most any other woofer!

I got 2 10" w3 and they sound really good with the bass turned up to 7+ and the volume to 18 I dont push them that hard or unless if i am showing off.

and how many volts are you adding to the speaker using the DMM method when you crank your bass up to 7? whats the difference if he has the bass at 7 or turns the gains up on the amp and puts the bass at 0?

Like I said, This is getting stupid
