How do the new Type-Rs stack up against the SA-12

I was just curious if anyone knows how the new 1000 watt RMS black Type-Rs stack up the the Sundown SA-12s.

I've heard the SA-12 can handle about 1000 watts RMS which is what the Type-R is rated at.

Just wondering if anyone has heard both and can make a comparison or just has a good guess.

I'm just asking because they are priced competitively.

To new to compare right now. The last model R was pretty beast so if this one raised the bar it could be close
I was thinking the same thing. I remember right before I got my Type-Rs I asked on this forum how the Sundows compared and everyone said it was close but overall performance generally went to the Sundown subs. I can only imagine these would have to be at least a little better.

In terms of sheer abuse handling I would still not expect the Type-R to really be up to the SA-12 even with the revisions. In terms of performance simply at 600 watts it is going to be a good game as the Type-R is a well designed product.

I did speak with Jim (Alpine Engineer) about some of the upgrades and it is better than prior models. I believe alot of the concentration was put into the triple joint and cone holding up to what people were doing to the drivers. I do not believe there was a significant change to the coil and thermal management but as far as mainstream products go Alpine's thermal management was already quite good.
