How do I prep door panels for install?

I have a 2001 sierra with OEM 6.5 comps in front and 4x6's back. I'm going to be replacing and amping the speakers. It seems that the best place to start is by setting up the door panels what steps do I need to take?

I haven't really decided on speakers or amp I'm just trying to find a starting point. Any advice for speakers? I'm looking to spend around $500 to replace front and back speakers and buy an amp. Is that a realistic budget? I already have subs installed if that makes a difference.

I realize my budget may not be as high as some of the members but I would like to take the steps to get the most out of my setup!

I'm not really following you. If you're just doing a speaker swap there's not much to it. Add some deadener, run some wire and drop in the new speakers...

It's not really a swap its stock speakers unamped to aftermarket speakers amped.

If you're just dropping new speakers into the stock locations, it's a swap. As I said, add some deadener, run the new wire and drop in the speakers...

If I were you, I'd look into 5.25" components. Some mdf baffles should allow them to fit. You may have to trim a little plastic or metal here and there, but it shouldn't be anything major...

no its not worth it, its jusr rear fill with thos good comps are what you need i wouldnt put much to the rear

Yeah, I just noticed that the 4x6"s are in the rear. No point in adding componets back there.

door comes off in 30 seconds add deadener. the factory tweeter is attached to the door panel. 10mm nuts hold it in. cake to replace, id take outthe facotry and drilla new holw next to it. easy takes a couple miniutes if you have never done it before. but its cake really. as far as th rear...if use infinity referene with the 3" and tweeter in the plate. they sound great. they dont have to be amplified also. there about 30w rms. good luck
