how different do they sound?

i was wondering what is the diffenence between sub sizes.lets use the fi q for example. the 8 and the 18 take the same power. if i was limited for space and could fit 1 18 or 2 8s what would be louder. i would think that 2000 watts would be louder than 1000 but would that compair to size.

Not always but in the case of the same driver but one setup with a pair of 8s and another setup with a single 18 then I'd say yes, the bigger driver is going to own the 8s.

I love the low end bass, and that 18" would dominate the lows. The more surface area, the easier to reproduce low end frequencies at higher DB levels.

18 will have much more low end and move much more air= louder and lower

the statement that the larger radiating surface yielding more output and better output at lower frequencies is a generalization. it shows to be true in most cases, but not all of them.

the larger cone can be a contributing factor to the extended low end output, but it is an incorrect statement to say that a larger woofer will play lower, louder, and not sound as good as a smaller speaker.

I guess I should have been more clear. I was talking only about this series of woofers, not all. 2 8" FI Q's would not play as low and loud as a single 18" Q.
