hookin up a 2nd battery this way..pros and cons anyone?

Constantly draining your battery to complete depletion is a sure way to kill the battery all together.
Why exactly can't you wire it up to the original? Adding a 2nd batt does not always create the need for a HO Alternator... there are several other factors that come into play.
so adding/wiring a second battery to the engine battery together (of similar types, gel cell) wouldnt hurt my stock alternator if i was pushing the amps on average?

It certainly is possible... if your running some heavy stuff.

But I've seen systems with 90a idle alts support 2000+ watt amps, with 5+ tvs, using 2 batteries, with 0 head light dim.

I'd highly recommend a deep cell. Kinetik or Optima.

If ur just gonna get a kinetik do it the other way around. Most stock batteries aren't sealed and leak fumes that can cause fires. Having that stock battery in the back is a horrible idea.....
U think having a registered SN on this forum for 3 years u would at least know some of the basics...

And I get made fun of as an 07'er. Some people just come here and browse the classifieds obviously.

I have done the big 3 with 1/0 and I have a yellow top up front, and I STILL get voltage drops down to 11.9v. Some stock alts are just better than others.

Very, very bad idea.
You'll end up killing that battery very quickly, and probably taking down your amps with it. Voltage dips would be KILLER after probably only 1 song full tilt, and the battery would need to be charged ALL THE TIME.

Just upgrade the battery up front to a smaller kinetik like the HC1400 or something similar in size, then do a bigger battery in back.
i like this idea. you could also not have a battery in the front and just run big ones in the back.

i like this idea too. not touching a keypad when you have nothin constructive to say.

like i said guys, im not DOING it like this, it was called an "IDEA". if its bad than so be it. must be hard for some to comprehend that

X2 on the 3 years...some ppl just don't get it....

i have seen people run 16000+ watts with a stock alt and 9 total batteries. not saying i agree with it but it lasted over 2 years as a daily and longer had he not sold it...
16,000W, 16KW? No way a stock alt could ever even come close to keeping up with that power demand. At that point you're basically running off of 100% battery power and even 9 batteries would drain relatively quickly with that much power. Obviously he didn't crank it for extended periods of time. Or only a very small amount of that power went to speakers other than subs, so they weren't constantly used... Basically he had to give the batteries a lot of time to charge between use otherwise I call BS.

totally not bs was a top 5 finisher at db drag world finals 2 straight years to boot. how much was it turned up? dunno but you could hear him for a few blocks heard it a couple times weekly for sure.

I have no doubt that it would work, I'm just saying if you turned it up a lot, it wouldn't last.

There is no physically possible way to not drain 9 batteries with 16kw with only a tiny little alternator trying to charge them...unless of course like I said you give the batteries a ton of time to charge between pushing the system hard.
