hi guys!

well, im trying to upgrade my electrical in my 95 probe gt and so far, i have done the big3 and am using 0/1 guage runs to the hatch from the engine battery.i will soon get a yellow top or a another kind of gel cell. i was thinking of a different idea in my case. i have an excellent running engine and stock alternator

the hoods are REALLY low to fit almost any kind of battery except the stock size and i may have a problem putting a larger size in there. space is VERY limited. so i was thinking the following..

what if i left the stock 800amp engine batt. as is, with all my wiring still in place going back to my amps in the hatch, then buy a gel cell, BUT run it seperate, on its own (not connected to the engine), in the trunk to give the amps some extra juice ?? i know it may sound "very different", but with a gel cell, id be able to mount it any which way or hide it in the trunk and then i can always take it out and charge it on my portable recharger in the garage. i know it may seem like a lot of work and i know the obvious response would be to get a H/O alternator. but not trying to cut corners, and since my stock is running fine, my luck id do more harm than good trying to install the thing, plus they are fairly pricey. this method is bascially trying to avoid the H/O alternator as an option.

what do you guys think? sound crazy? pros/cons?

any input is appreciated! thx

worse idea ever. If the 2 batteries aren't connected somehow than ur just making a huge ground loop in the car. Not to mention a 2nd battery that probably wouldn't play more than 30mins since there's no alternator charging it

How are you going to charge the bat then?
well, id drain it fully and take it out then recharge it and put it back in the car. i know it sounds like a lotta work. but im curious of the results. if it work work well or not and how long a fully charged yellow top say, would last PER charge cycle

Very, very bad idea.

You'll end up killing that battery very quickly, and probably taking down your amps with it. Voltage dips would be KILLER after probably only 1 song full tilt, and the battery would need to be charged ALL THE TIME.

Just upgrade the battery up front to a smaller kinetik like the HC1400 or something similar in size, then do a bigger battery in back.

so youre saying, put a smaller kinetik like the HC1400, in the front, and use a normal stock battery in the rear? then just run 0/1 guage from the kinetic to the stock, then to the amps?

If ur just gonna get a kinetik do it the other way around. Most stock batteries aren't sealed and leak fumes that can cause fires. Having that stock battery in the back is a horrible idea.....

U think having a registered SN on this forum for 3 years u would at least know some of the basics...

HC1400 in the front, then a bigger kinetick like the HC2000 or HC2400 in the rear.

It's ok to mix batteries of similar style (deep cycle, gel cell, AGM, etc.), but I would advise against mixing batteries of different style like you are thinking about doing. Though people have done that without problems, I just don't like it myself.

Constantly draining your battery to complete depletion is a sure way to kill the battery all together.

Why exactly can't you wire it up to the original? Adding a 2nd batt does not always create the need for a HO Alternator... there are several other factors that come into play.

who said i was gonna do it? i was just replying back if thats what he meant or not. he didnt specifically said what type of battery in the back.

you think after THOUSANDS of posts, you could read
