hook up my system. baterry dies

so i went to go hook up my system in my 1993 plymouth acclaim and i get everything hooked up besides the wires to my speakers from my and and i go to check and see if the amp was getting power and i turn the key and my hc starts blinking and i found out that means that my battery is dead anyone know why it died? old junk battery i dont know.... thanks for the help guys

It wouldnt just "die" without something draining power from it. If nothing was connected, then it is not dead. Check ALL of your connections.

Everything was connected while you were hooking up your amp? That is a no no... You should disconnect the - terminal of the battery before doing anything electrical.

Only thing I can think of is that something is disconnected, or possibly shorted out. Someone will have to post with more automotive electrical knowledge.

It might have just been drained from having the interior lights on all the time you were working on the installation. Charge it up and see if it keeps draining.
