high quality power cable - home depot?!

I was reading "the absolute sound" which is a well reknowned hifi stereo magzine. For some of their systems they reccomended home depot hd-14G power cable. I was thinking, if HD carried heavier guage cable, would this be a good choice for power cable in a car stereo? Its funny because they usually have some crazy handcrafted german cable that costs hundreds, but no, its home depot cable. Just thought I mention it.

I've never seen anything larger than 10 guage at a HD. They carry 14 guage wire, which is just fine, but the insulation jacket is monsterous and the same wire can be purchased elsewhere for cheaper.

HD wire is garbage. I got a few feet of 4ga there once and it was made up of like 8 huge strands, shit was stiffer than me at a strip club on x.
That's what it is...not really "garbage", but it's not meant for being very flexible //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Welding cable is much, much, much more flexible. And usually cheaper than "car audio wire".

For 4ga or larger, youre better off going to weldingsupply.com (unless you have some seriously good hook-ups). 30ft of 0/1g and 12ft of 4g cost me about 35bux shipped //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

that 4 awg wire at HD that is like 8 thick strands is not meant for carstereo, its only like 20 amps and cant be used for amps and stuff it wont carry more than 10-20 amps

If it's really 4awg...it'll handle more than 20A //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I meant it's not meant for car stereo because of the lack of flexibility...you don't tend to care about that in direct burial home installation. But the current carrying ability is fine...

I was gonna buy some o gauge lowes/hd home use wire, but man was that UBER hard. I figured ill pay the extra 10-15 bucks and get some flexible easy to run wire(which i did).

yes, the more expensive the more flexable. thats why i went with stinger for 1/0 awg in my truck and stinger for 2/0 in my boat.

yes, but high end welding cable is the same way. the more expensive the more flexable. the cheaper the stiffer.
Not as a rule...even if there such a thing as "high-end welding cable" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
