High Pass Filter???

So I am correct by stating that when I adjust my HPF my sub output should not change?

I am guessing that maybe the rcas are hooked up wrong because when I turn my sub output off on my HU, the sub stays on.....

And yes, I am very much a newb...

So if I go and switch the rca's on my amp around this should fix my problem I am guessing. Do I need to worry about anything when I do this as far as breaking anything?

Dang, now I'm confused. I thought when you changed the HPF on the HU it wasn't suppose to affect the subs, just the speakers. I thought that the subwoofer's HPF was governed soley on the amp HPF setting.

right. if your deck has 3 sets of pre-outs, front, back, sub. The HPF is supposed to only affect the front and back RCAS. So you either have your rca's mixed up or your just now starting to hear your mid bass.

Well, first I would like to thank everyone on their effort to help me.

Nismon14 and Jermy M were bang on, the RCA's were mixed up, I went and swiched them around at my amp and bang, all is normal now. The HPF does not affect my sub anymore, and when I turn my sub off at the HU, it actually turns off.

The thing that pi$$e$ me of about this is I paid to have this stuff so called "installed" at a reputable install shop here in Winnipeg. First they told me that my 6.5's would not fit in my doors and they refused to attempt to install them. Future shop told me they could do it no problem, I guess I will see for sure in a couple weeks when I go for my appt. Now I find out my RCA's were mixed up also. I am going to call and complain on Monday.....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

On a good note I seem to be getting way more bass out of my sub now. I will have to revisit my gains tommorow....

Thanks again for all the input, another problem solved at Caraudio.com //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

that means that whatever you set the high pass filter at. it will only play as low as that.
i.e if you set it at 100hz that means it would only play between 100hz and idk 2khz

.
Nope don't see a fix or answer to his question anywhere..

same as low pass filter. if you set it at 60hz it will only play 60hz and below.
still no..

because then the amp is playing a broader range of frequencies. as where if it was 100hz you may only hear a little bass but as you low the pass say to 50hz then you hear more bass cause it is closer to the frequency that most bass beats are.
still no...

high pass filter means you set it at lets say 100hz and it will play 100hz and up.
low pass lets say 60hz and it will play only up to 60hz and below 60hz
still no....

yes i have a pioneer also and it also does that to my subs. maybe it is just pioneer i dont know. but the same things happens to me.
It happens to you too? Well since OP's wiring was incorrect, maybe yours is too... and still no.....

lol.
idk it must be connected inside the h/u so that the subs dont overpower the frontstage too much i guess.

but it does make it sound more uniformed when you have the passes on.
still no......

i answered his question earlier then i was just giving him some backround information.
you absolutely did not.

Can you start posting when you actually know shit? You are definately a huge noob.
