Help With Wiring

Let me start off by saying that I am completely unexperienced when it comes to car audio. This means that any instructions will have to be through for me to fully understand them.

Here is my problem:

I had a Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD head unit installed a while back. Recently I bought an adapter to plug into my auxiliary port in the back of my Pioneer head unit to run a wire to the headphone jack in my iPod. Now I managed to do all this fine and it has worked great ever since installation but now there seems to be a short in the wiring to my iPod as it only comes out of one speaker. This can only be fixed byl moving the wire around and finding the right place. Well, I could go out and buy a new one but there may be a cheaper solution. On the same wiring is an adapter to plug in to the bottom of the iPod to both charge the device and transmit the music to the head unit. The problem is I have absolutely no clue on how to wire this to my truck. I drive a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500, if that helps, and the wires are as pictured:

I understand a professional might be required to do this but I would really like to learn to do it on my own. If there is anyway someone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Cheaper solution:

Buy the exact same one you have now - same model and brand.

Take out new wires.

Put ruined wires back in box.

Bring box and receipt back to shop and get your full money back.
