Help with specifics on mutt system

Okay, I got impatient after installing my brother's subs and got something okay for now.

Alpine MRD-M501 Amp

2 Alpine Type-R DVC 4-ohm

Sealed box (don't know specs yet)

I found this on Craigslist for a decent price and went ahead and bought it. I know the subs are a bad match for the amp since I can only get a 4-ohm load for this amp. I plan to get a Hifonics 2010D in a week or two to get around 500rms per sub @ 2 ohms. I plan to upgrade subs soon so don't panic.

This is going in a (cough) Mercury Villager van.

The amp is digital and I therfore have no friggin clue how to adjust it. I do not have a HU as of yet and have spliced RCA's (using a converter) of the RL and RR speakers.

My first question is how do I know which level to set the amp to for the inputs? I'm assuming the higher setting is what I would use.

I have never had to really configure an amp because they were just Gain and bass boost. I had a Memphis amp that had a crossover but I just set it to 80ish and moved on.

Anyone in the Cincinnati area up for helping me? If not (I'm assuming you realize I'm joking) could you guys give me an idea of what each of the settings do? For example there are 3 settings for bass compensation. Another would be the parametric eq settings. I'm so lost at this point.

Anyone willing to give me some tips? I have downloaded the user manual for the amp but it doesn't give specifics for each setting. It just tells you how to access them and change them.

1) the subs are going to want more than 500RMS, they will perform much better on 700-800RMS

2) trash the sealed box. type-R's are useless in sealed enclosures. 5cu ft @ 32 hz and that thing will slam

3) mercury villager + subs = loud

I have called multiple places in town for a custom ported box and they all respond "We have ported boxes that will fit those subs". There is generally a pause when I tell them I want it tuned. No way I'm getting a crappy ported box for subs I'm hoping to use for a very short time. Any ideas besides me trying to figure out how to build the box myself?

Bleh, I don't know why when I type I get confused about ohms. Make that a 1610d at 700rms @ 1 ohm. The original post mentions RMS at 2 ohms. I realize I can't get 2 ohms out of this sub, I just botched it.

Advice/Constructive Criticism:

1) Two DVC4ohm woofers = 1ohm load, so you would see 1ohm on the amp. The 1610 would be a great match for those two woofers.

2) Make the room, ported box as mentioned. That is a big big big part of this. You can have someone make and ship you a very nice custom box for those woofers as well, and still come out cheaper than a shop is going to charge you. Not much more/on que with price of their pre-fabricated boxes, in fact.

What settings, in particular, do you need help with? I'm not familiar with the Alpine, but if you can tell me which particular things are giving you a problem, I'm sure we can walk you through that.

And go get you a HU! For God's sakes, I have one for a hundred bucks with an independent sub control, haha.

My questions for the settings would be:

What is bass compensation? There are three settings on this amp.

What is a parametric eq and how should I tune it?

With the way I have tapped off the rear speakers from a factory HU which should I choose as my input level? 0.1V-2V or 0.5V-8V?

You should try the fusion PP2000.1 Claims 2000w rms and has 160amps worth of fusing, so would def push the shit out of those type Rs, Plus its only 190 bucks on ebay. I dont know the cost of the hifonics youre looking into but the fusion may be something youre interested in.
