i got a remington 870 12 gauge and i am trying to install the magazine choke. the manual says to use a screwdriver to pry off the magazine plug but its plastic and it just keeps chipping. i am new to shotguns and have no clue on what else to do, can anyone help me?

are you putting in a slug in the chamber for hunting or are you putting in a choke? the 870 is a good gun btw. a 870 super mag combo is calling my name later this month.

yah... hunting is 3 shells in most states... if your not hunting don't worry about it... and the 870 has a nice rep... I'm thinking about getting one as a beater for hunting so I can save my Browning Gold Hunter from the horrors of hunting...

if you have a gun, shoot it. a gun is made to shoot, not look pretty in a cabinet. its like owning a car and not driving it all but once a year. its just lame to not shoot it.

I'd like to keep it around for trap shooting... plus it's a $1200 gun... I could beat up on the remington and not feel bad

shoot, i was looking at a model 700 titanium a while back, which i will get when i can afford it and not be in the hole, that thing was like nearly 1400, but i just bought all new highs/mids/deck. no gun should you beat up on whether it be a $200 or $5000 gun. take care of everything. if you take care of your browning on hunting trips, you wouldnt need to waste money on another one. i know guys who have hunted every weekend for 20 years with the same gun and it is still like new. its all about how you take care of things.

i was talkin with my brother in law and he told that my shotgun should last me my whole life and i could hand it down to my son if i took care of it.

I do take care of mine, but I'd like a "beater" that I can care for mechanically and forget cosmetic...
