Help with picking an eq

First off let me say i'm an old car stereo nut that just got back into it....a bit. It started out with just a new HU to plug the Sirius into...well that has snowballed a bit. I have found out that the equiptment of today isn't what it once was, appears to be a bit cheaper than it was 16yrs ago, not like my old PPI ProMos 425. Anyway, i installed an MTX TA5302 to power the new CDT comps up front, used an older MTX thunder102 for the shallow mount Pioneer 12" Sub(F150 SC, fits under rear seat, have a kid now, removing seat not an option anymore).

There seems to be a "hole" in the music, thus my thinking of getting an EQ. I want something within reach, indash style. I have narrowed it down to a few, but am still unsure. Been out of the game for a longtime. What i am looking at is the PG TEQ6, Kicker KQ9, and the Eclispe EQ1000. What are your recommendations? Anyof these good? Others to choose from?

I have been out of car audio for a while too. The 3 biggest differences I see that affect me are that amplifiers put out more power than they used to, small subwoffers can have a ton more spl than they used to and that many head units come with a built-in EQ. Some even with mics to set themselves. Wish I could be more help but my h/u has a built-in eq.

Where is the 'hole'? Im wondering if the shallowmount has anything to do with it as I have a Pioneer PRemier shallowmount 10 and I find there is a lack of tightness and definition in the 50-100HZ region which I attribute to this sub's sloppiness. Never been able to completely get rid of it regardless of what I've done with crossovers and gain attenuation. I've even upgraded my sub amp and improved it somewhat but it's still there. Ive heard better things about the Clarion version of the shallowmount sub and may try that soon as it got good reviews in the now defunct caraudiomag. Id never try to insinuate someone who was probably playing with this stuff while I was still in diapers might not know as much as me but... play with things like speaker aim, position, tweeter attenuation, and sub amp vs. mid/high amp attenuation to get what you want and once you're at those limits look for an equalizer.

Nowadays source units, amps, and speakers are so good that alot of people only do minimmal if any eq'ing to get it right.
