Help with New Stereo 06 Silverado GM0S-04

OK, I just ordered a Pioneer AVH-4400BH DVD for my 06 Silverado 2500 crew cab LT with stock bose system and on star.

I ordered Axcess GM0S-04 to retain my On-star and Door Chimes. I noticed a couple ot things. 1, mine does not have any RCA plugs on the GM0S-04 harness. Weird must be an older model. So I assume I can just go from the Pioner stereo harness speaker leads into the GM0S-04 per instructions?

Second, The directions state to connect the red switched power wire on the GM0S-04 16 pin harness (the one that goes from the GM0S-04 to the Pioneer) to the red Power wire on the stereo. That makes sense. However there are 2 red switched power wires on the 16 pin harness. Do I just use one and save the other for another accessory?

Speaking of that it appears the GM0S-04 came with Steering wheel Controls harness for your steering wheel controls adaptor I ordered separatley. The part of the GM0S-04 harness that may be used for the steering controls adaptor has a red switched power wire. I assume this needs power also. So do I used the other red lead on the 16 pin harness for that? The directions are not the best with the Axcess unit. As a matter of fact they do not even talk about the smaller harness that appears to be for steering wheel controls.

I feel your pain in trying to decipher Axxcess instructions, but it could be worse, PAC writes the worst instructions in the world. For better assistance the website generally has a different manual that is easier to understand. I can answer a few questions, if it does not have the RCA inputs, make sure it is a BOSE or premium sound retention, IIRC the 04 is but double check. Secondly, the steering remote lead needs switched power yes, but it should have already been laced into the harness. The easiest thing to do is plug it into the truck turn the key and put a volt meter on it to see if both reds have 12v. Also, I think I remember something about Metra changing the GMOS to a sort of flatter black box, and the old units only had RCA without the general white/grey/etc... so if it has the wire colors it must change the signal within the GMOS

Yes, the wire colors on the gmos match the wire colors on the pioner harness without using any of the rca on the back of the pioneer. Getting most of the wires set-up and then using 12v light (tester) to check for power on the other leads. It is fairly confusing because I think they must have extra wires that are not used in every situation on the gm0s.

i also didnt use any of the RCAs on my HU to connect my adapter, those should all be saved for addons to the system.

you are also dead on in extra wire assumption. i just hooked up a gmos-01 in my 04 Grand Prix GT and there are wires everywhere that dont go to something on the HU. for instance i had 2 extra red switched power wires (taped off didnt use) another wire i think was green and yellow (supposed to be for my speed controlled volume but doesnt exist on the HU taped off didnt use) and if i recall correctly there were one or two more wires that didnt match up to my HU so...taped off didnt use.

after the fact i determined the easiest thing to do would have been to tape off and loom together the wires i didnt need. that would have eliminated a significant amount of confusion, in fact i may rip out the whole deal this weekend (since i am running new RCA and remote wire anyway) and do it again to make the install cleaner.

another note. i am not sure if i am a special case or if this is a fault of the GMOS adapters but occasionally the door chime doesnt turn itself off so i have to cycle the key and remove it from the ignition a few times until it resets itself. if these things werent so d4mn expensive i would just take the GMOS out and try a PAC for my car instead.

I did end up calling them just to verify. Come to find out I had the power connected correct before I started second guessing because of the poor instructions. For those who are wanting to do an aftermarket head unit here is the info.

The 16 pin GM0S-04 connector does have 2 switched red 12 volt power wires. They both go to the Red switched power on the head unit which is how I had my harness wired. They told me "yeah the instructions did not get updated to show this. Also included on the GM0S harness is a small harness for tying in your steering wheel control interface (sold separate) that has a red 12 volt switched wire that I also tied in to the other red wires and soldered.

The tech expert did tell me the newer GM0S-04 no longer comes with the RCA plugs. So I must have the newer version.

My dash kit did not arrive yet and either did my steering wheel control interface or backup camera so I was not able to a final install yet. But I did pull the old radio and plugged the new GM0S-04 into my factory harness and plug in my new Pioneer AVH-P4400-BH in. Everything worked first try. The sound is amazing and so is this new DVD head unit. I am so glad I decided to upgrade. The wiring was not that bad. Just follow the instructions as good as you can and you should have no problems.

Also for the silverado per the instructions there is a * that states the White with orange stripe and green with orange stripe (I think are colors) on the GM0S harness need to be cut. Did that and saw now problems but like I said I do not have my steering wheel interface yet.

I hope this helps.

Yes, I did the bypass with a 12V relay. Worked first try. Don't plan on using it if I am driving but it sure is nice to not have to put the brake on.

My favorite part of the pioneer is the fact that is recognizes my Droid Bionic through bluetooth and streams all of my music. It will alos pause it and take my phone calls hands free. Seems to stream my Pandora App nice as well.

yeah my Jensen does a pretty good job with my HTC Evo on bluetooth. i dont stream music because i have 16GB on my 80GB Ipod classic. when i installed the HU i ran the ipod cable from the back then cut a hole in the back of the pocket in my dash and ran the cable through it. so my ipod just sits in there all the time never need to turn it off or disconnect it, just starts playing when turn on the car. i would have liked to have gotten a Pioneer but when i was looking all the ones i wanted were out of my budget.

Here a re some pictures of my install. Note the USB port I installed.

Here is a picture of the Droid Car Dock connected through Bluetooth. Also, I had a infinity Basslink sub laying around that I had installed in a different truck that I sold a couple of years ago. Figured I would put it in this truck. Wow what a difference. It is a nice addition to the stock bose amp and speakers. I don't listen to much hip hop or rap. I am more of a Rock and country listener so I like a nice tight bass. Works well.

Hey Paul,

I'm installing the GMOS-04 in my '05 Silverado with a Pioneer AppRadio. I'm pretty excited, especially since the stock Bose HU is having issues and my iPhone/iPod interface is also flaking. Needless to say I was sort of stumped on the 2 red ignition wires as well and was planning on waiting until their support opened. Now, thanks to you I can continue on with my audio mission!!! Thank you again for following up on here once you found the correct answer.

Thanks

Robert
