help with installing an aftermarket radio to an 05' chevy equinox

i bought a sony xplod reciver today, and hooked it up to my car, but the display of the unit would not turn on, it would take the cd and spit it back out, but would not work. we took the first unit back, but when arrived with the new unit the same problem, any help?

Just the regular audio system, and it is from my local car audio shop that plugged right in.

usually I stick to Metra harnesses, what did that one cost?

you may need a different harness. there seems to be quite a few for this vehicle.. GMOS-07, GMRC-05

did your harness come with a speaker?

Well they asked me at the audio shop if I'd like to retain the door chime, and I told them no. So I have no idea what the problem is, we wired up everything correct and it just continues to do the same thing.

Im pretty sure you have the wrong harness. You're going to have to try the GMOS-07 or GMRC-05 or equivalent (little pricey).

OR, get a DMM and check your powers. I'm willing to be you dont have a full 12v on your ignition wire. you can manually run it from the ignition switch if you'd like

ok man what you need to do is tap a fuse that only works when the car is on. find the sunroof fuse(even if you dont have one its probably in there) and use that for your switched 12v(red wire) These cars use Class II data to turn on the radio, the non chime harness doesnt interpret Class II and provide a switched 12v so you have to tap a fuse that is switched. I had to do the same thing in my 01 alero and my 08 grand prix..

i use best kits at my shop. we just switched to metra cuz we can get them next day if we need.
