Help with Engine Whine - Just Installed Front Components

MOTHER OF GOD!

I grounded the amp to the frame in the trunk and the whine went away.

Now someone please explain to me why in the world this happened.

Thank you Famous_78. You are the fucking MAN.
My guess would be longer wire = more resistance = induced noise. Likely not enough to cause major whine, but could be.

Remember, with the ground your purpose is to complete the "circuit". If your grounds don't share to same point you'll have different resistance which can cause issues like you had.

Yeah, I'm actually going to re-connect the amp to the rear batt. and the double ground the rear batt. to the chassis where the amp is grounded. It should even out all the potential difference from the front and back. No way the .01 ohms of resistance of whatever of a 10 ft. run of 0/1 awg is less than a uni-body car like ours I would think.
