in my quest for SQ, have noticed lately that a lot of the music that i listen to on a daily basis has an audible amount of hiss or static in it. i know it's not my equipment because it's not all music, just i'd say a good half of it, maybe more. i'm thinking this became more obvious now that i have quite a bit of power going to my tweeters. but like i said it's not my equipment because it doesn't happen on all music.

anybody else notice this? it kinda sucks, but what can ya do ya know.

Try cutting 4khz pretty heavily on a song that has this sound and see if it helps. If it is, it's a sibilance issue. If it's random and doesn't follow a pattern with the music, then it might be something mechanical (damaged tweeter, loose wire connection, loose RCA, etc..).

If it follows the music, it could still be a mechanical issue but that's doubtful. It might just be a bad recording from the studio. I've heard plenty of studio nasties on store bought CDs. Red Hot Chili Pepper's Californication had a lot of little static artifacts in it. Lamb of God's Laid to Rest has some static in it from the studio too. Sometimes things like that slide and sometimes it's faulty equipment.

If you're talking about background noise that is soft and difficult to hear except at high volumes, it could be either a recording flaw, or noise from your electrical or amps.
