Help with box for RE8

Sub is the old RE8 not the new Rex8

I made an .43cuft sealed enclosure that is bolted under the rear deck firing into the cabin.

I can give the sub enough clean power but it still sounds terrible.

The car is a Cobalt. I have tried sound dampening and it stopped the rattles

The box looks something like this.

the dots are just there for spacing.

..............._____9'' ____

_________l..................l_________2.5"

l

l______________20''____________l 4.5"

What should I do I am out of ideas? I have heard this is a great sub but it is not sounding like it

Yea I defiantly regret trying that setup but if I take out the sub now there will just be a gaping hole back there.

So I am going to try to make it sound decent and if I cant I will leave it back there and just not run it.

What about infinite baffle?

Specs vs. the Image Dynamics ID8 (supposedly a great IB sub)

RE-8. - - qts .34, xmax 12mm, fs 22.8 hz, rms 175, vas 27.1 L

ID8v.3 - qts .33, xmax 15mm, fs 24.7 hz, rms 150, vas 44.0 L

firinging into the cabin like that dosent work good for sub bass...
Why? Is it any different than an SUV with a sealed sub in the back? I would think not having to play through the rear seat would be more efficient.

Casey what does it sound like, why is it terrible? Just curious here, I don't really have a solution.

I'm running IB subs in my rear deck and they're sloppy and undefined (typical of IB) but do manage to fill in the low end. I've been thinking that sealing them would improve definition but they'd still be firing into the cabin. Why is that bad?
