Help with Amp selection and wiring Mids and highs.

I'm new here but appreciate any and all help.

I have a 2000 Gmc Yukon Sle with a 7 inch lift and Straight Pipes and 35" knobby tires. My audio is system is almost non-existent and I would like to listen to more then the truck and road.

My Truck currently has all factory audio. Factory amp and an 8 inch sub in rear. Front doors have 6.5" speakers with what I believe to be about 4 inch tweeters over top of them. Rear doors have only the 6.5" speakers and rear pillars have 1" tweeters.

For the moment I ordered 4 Pioneer TS-M650PRO 6-3/4" Pro series High Efficiency Mid-Range Car Speakers. Also a pair of Pioneer TS-B350PRO 3-1/2" High Efficiency PRO Series Bullet Car Tweeters.

I would like to know what size amp I should run these speakers to and how I should be wiring them? (Example 400.4 on a 400 rms with a pair of crossovers on one set of 6-3/4" and the tweeters ran to 2 channels and other set of 6's ran to other 2 channels).

Please help and thanks again for any advice.

What do you have for a head unit? You will need to cross those over somehow so if you don't have or plan to buy a source unit that'll cross over for you you should consider buying an amp with crossover options. Post a budget and you can probably get some suggestions.

I don't have a head unit yet but I have a budget of about $400 for HU, amp and crossovers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'll be home in a few minutes and share the HU I was thinking about.

I recommend a higher power amp. I have 35x12.5's BFG KO's on my trucks and they aren't too bad but I certainly appreciate the 130x4 amp I have running my mids/highs, especially windows down in the summer.

Value minded amp options...all have built in crossovers. Most HU's will have them too.

Pioneer 9604 and 8604

NVX JAD800.4

Infinity 704a

PPI ION1000.4

Quite of few others that I am sure other members will mention.

As far as HU I'm thinking Pioneer AVH-291BT, MVH-AV290BT, AVH 201EX OR Kenwood DDX374BT Or lastly the JVC KW-V230BT.
Apologies for so many units I've looking into to them trying to figure which one would be the best bang for my buck. But if you have a different suggestions I'm all ears. I'd even consider single din.

My budget is about $400 for HU, Amp and any other accessories I could need. I.e. crossovers.

I have not done a legit system since I was about 18 which was 12 years ago. Everything has advanced a good bit since then.

Thank you for any help.

Ok I have the Pioneer 8604 in my Amazon cart now. A question I have is when I wire the speakers to the amp, how should I do it? I have four 6 3/4 components and 2 super tweeters. Amp has 4 channels, so do I run 2 of the 6 3/4 speakers to two of the channels and the other 2 of the 6 3/4 and the 2 tweeters to the other 2 channels together?

Run the super tweets on the front channels of the amp crossed over at at least 3k hertz, run the front components on the rear channels with a 60-80hz highpass filter and run the rear components on the head unit rear power.

Honestly I would get rid of the super tweets and run a set of components active but that's just me.

The rear speakers don't need to be too loud head unit power should be enough or buy a 6 channel that's 75-100w x 6

Should I bypass the factory amp or just allow it to run the rear pillar speaks and 8 inch sub? If I just leave it will it affect the output to the individual third party amps I'll be adding?

Really the problem is you do not get crossovers with those component speakers you have selected so you'll either need to use and amp or head unit to cross them over or build your own passive crossovers. You can't just use capacitors on the tweeters because those mids will sound awful if you don't low pass them. You'll definitely want at least a coil on each.

Is there a factory 8" sub being powered off the factory amp? Personally I'd suspect ANYTHING factory will be a weak link so you should consider bypassing all of it.

I just switched to Sony head units myself and I'm really liking them, but JVC/Kenwood has been good to me too. JVC should have some nice options with the built in crossovers you need. I'm not really up on lower cost equipent so perhaps someone else can chime in here. May be easier to get a more bare bones head unit and there's a cost effective amp that'll handle the crossover work.

Yes, the factory amp is powering the factory 8 inch sub. But I don't mind bypassing it. I have a 12 inch pioneer champion series pro sub with an amp that I plan to hook up.
I've never built a passive crossover. Are their any pre made crossovers you can recommend? If not how difficult is it to build one? I just bought a soldering kit. Never used one but I'm up for learning.

I really appreciate the help.

Well if you have an aftermarket sub you should probably bypass the factory everything.

Ideally you'll want to do second order. Polypropylene caps and ribbon coils are preferred for crossovers, but the extra cost may make it impractical. Watch the voltage ratings on the caps and make sure you use those big block style ceramic resistors where needed. You can build your own on a bread board or just jump the components all together with wire, wrap them in tape and stash them away somewhere. It's a fun project worth doing once, but price things out and you may find the money it would cost to build your own passive crossovers will be enough to just get a better head unit or amp with those features built in.

Parts Express may have a generic 2 way passive crossover, but if you're running 2 ohm to the mids and 4 to the tweeters you won't have the best results. You'd do better hitting your target crossover points designing your own with the impedance of your speakers figured in.
