Help with a circuit chip issue - MTX 2150 2 channel amp

ive had the same great MTX amp powering my kicker subwoofers for years and that thing still sounds awesome. the issue is that the chip keeps coming loose, so the red light goes off and the speakers won't work. i constantly go to the trunk and move the chip so it catches the metal and the light goes on....for a little while. i guess the slot is melted or misshapen so the chip won't stay.

does anyone have any recommendations or solutions for this? im about to just buy a new amp, but this one, when the chip catches and stays, sounds excellent. this is my last attempt befoer i just buy a new one. thanks!

well you could reflow the lead to it with an ultrasonic bonder, but i'm guessing you don't have one.

If it were me, i'd just use CA Glue on it. once the glue crystalizes with activator, it will not be conductive and will probably last another few years.

appreciate the quick response man. gotta forgive me, i dont know crap about this stuff. but if the glue cystalizes and is NOT conductive as you said, doesnt that mean it wont work? i was thinking crazy glue or whatever also... but im about to buy a new one so i got nothing to lose i guess.

I would do this, apply pressure to it like you've done in the past to get it to come on. Power off the unit. Pour a liberal amount of glue on the chip, then spray it with CA Activator. wait 20 seconds and power it back up. If it comes back on, you're set.

Here is what you'll need :

BSI Insta set CA glue activator

Can be found on anywhere from Amazon to Newegg. Its basically super glue with a kick....instead of waiting around for it to dry...all you do is spray whatever you glued with the activator and ....BAM.... instantly glued in place. Its what speaker builders like myself use to put speaker recones together.
