Help re: '08 Charger install...

Hi all,

Here's my plan.. I am purchasing all my equipment but having a shop do the instal/wiring (trying to save some serious $$, my last system cost $4,000). Here's the system going into an '08 Dodge Charger: 2 6x9's in the front doors factory slots (a sound shop recommeded this over a 6.5" component system separates) with a 1" tweeter in the dash. 2 6x9's in the rear deck, and 2 10" subs in a bandpass enclosure in the trunk. I will be making the amp rack which will utilize the spare tire area, it will be a false floor w/ both the amps (1 4channel & the other amp a 2 channel) staggered over each other, 2 fans, and a blue neon accent tube, all visible through a plexi-glass oval cut into the trunk flooring.

1st off, what do you think of 6x9's in the front doors? I liked the idea of component separates based on my last system, but he says it will sound good (the 6x9's) and add some bass up front.

2nd: What gauge speaker wire should I use? The amps are rated as follows- Lanzar VCT4120 4 channel 1100Watt amp @275 watts x4, or 550 watts x 2.

The sub amp is a Lanzar VCT2100 950 Watt 2 channel.

3rd: Coming from the battery, should I go w/a distribution block to both amps, and a 2 amp wiring kit (fused)? What i'm getting at is saving $$ without being sold a bunch of xtra items I really don't need. I'm going for good sound, not thumping , hear me from 2 blocks away obnoxious noise. Also, most shops around here don't want to just install the gear, they want me to buy some of their stuff. I'm buying all my gear online much cheaper (Crutchfield, Elcetrawarhouse, etc.) and just want to pay for the professional instal to save money. I'm not too sure as to what I should get as far as wire/power cable gauges, and distro blocks/fuse holders and amp wiring kits. Thanks for your time and help, I'll be sure to post pics when complete. Please advise...Bulama...

not likin the looks of the current system your buidling.

And if your looking to save money DO NOT take to a shop. Shops are very expensive. Well the ones that will actually give a **** about your installtion are.

If you really wanna save money do it yourself, its easy, we can help:)

Also what your budget? We can help u put together a better system.

And dont put 6x9's in th doors. Use a good comp set instead.

Anyways what your budget?

1) For sure go with the 6.5 components. No question.

2) 12 awg speaker wire is plenty for the subs, 16 awg for the mids/highs

3) For the power wire to the amps, since you have a Charger and the battery is in the trunk, you can run the power and ground wires directly to the battery. Just check which size wire the amps take and use that size. If your sub amp accepts 4 awg, then buy the 4 awg for power and ground, and you will need a 125A inline fuse. 4 awg wire is usually good up to 125A, that is why I said a 125A fuse.

4) Think about going with a different enclosure type if you are looking for quality sound. Sealed boxes have much better sound quality than a band bass box. And they are usually smaller too.

You can do a bandpass through the rear deck with 4 12s in the new Chargers. We built one for a kid a couple months back... 4 12" Ascendant Chaos and 2 Clarion DPX11500s. The sheetmetal around the sunroof is literally tearing from the flex.

If you need a box designed, let me know. You can get 2 12s bandpass in there no problem.

If you want "good sound, not thumping" that shop is steering you in the wrong direction.

Components in the front, not 6x9.

No bandpass box, that can limit sound quality. Build a quality sealed or slot ported box.

Spend a fortune on sound deadener.

Apparently you havent heard many bandpasses.
