FSU or FPR is not cooperating. Sounds like it's taking longer than it should for the proper fuel pressure to build up, inhibiting the engine from starting. You're idea is also a possibility. Throw some new battery cables on it, just to see. They're cheap, and it can't hurt to have new ones anyways. If you take it offroad, which I assume you do by your ava, then the cables may be soaked. Water and other contaminants can get inside them pretty easily, and mess them up.
