Help my electrical system

My 5.0 mustang with no stereo at all already has voltage problems, it already has major voltage drops with just using high beems, turn signals (pathetic i know)

My battery is relocated to the rear FYI.

It has all stock electric. When i do the big three, Should i ground the battery to a good spot on the car? I just dont know if there are really any good places to ground.. maybe i shouldn't even ground it anywhere since the amps are so close to the battery?

My system is going to be about 1600 rms. I dont want 2 batteries AT ALL, Putting a system in my lightweight fox body is hurting me enough as it is. What should i do? What amperage alternator would i need and where do i get it? Input is needed.. Thanks everyone

My battery is literally BRAND new, like 550 cca's i think. My alternator is a brand new STOCK alternator. its a 1988.
Upgrade to a 3g alt, '88s have a fire hazard alt plug. And you cant do the pos run for the Big 3 on that type OEM alt. Get on a 5.0 forum and you will find a alt upgrade/conversion kit.

Sounds like a ground issue. You need to do a frame ground in the rear of the car.

I designed the system in my 89 to be removable on track day. Just put everything on quick disconnects and add a 2nd battery for daily driving.

So i should ground the amps right to the battery, and then the battery to the frame? How about in the back right next to the little push button sensor that tells the car that the hatch is closed? The seems like a solid peice that is connected to the best of the unibody...

Not a great place to ground. The frame would be best.

Your saying you battery has been relocated to the rear of the vehicle. What kindof gauge wire do you have running from the alt in the front to the back to the new battery location. Secound What do you mean not ground the battery. You do have it grounded right. Im sure it is a Uni body like that other guy is asking. Wait have you said what year it is. I would run a ground wire from the front to the back as well. And ground amps some place else not to the battery. In my installs I always find it better ground the amps to seperate places on the chassis or frame. Making sure you get a good clean ground as well.

mustangs do not have frames, they have unibodys.

The Battery is grounded in the front in the engine bay, I will connect that to the engine block, all the wire i think is 2 gauge, its serious stuff its taylor automotive wire. Isn't the battery the best place to ground in my application? since its going to be like 2 feet away from the amps not even. Its a 1988 mustang gt. Why not ground to the battery though?

I know that already. Im not saying its a bad ground at all your miss reading me. You can go ahead. I have found that having each amp have its own ground just works better. It works well in my dakota Were I have grounds at the body not the frame.

I would go ahead and ground to the block like you are saying and check the thinkness of the wire as well. I can see you having this trouble with small gauge wire. In a mustange. Id have to look this up too not fully sure. Were do the power wires go first from the alt. Like my dakota Power wire comes off the alt to a main fuse at the power junction box were all the fuses are at then goes to the battery then a power wire goes to the starter. How is this in your mustange.
