First post here. Im putting together a decent budget system, in my 99 Lexus SC300. Its been a while since I've bought car audio. Alls I know is, ..the amps of today, dont seem to compare to what I had in the mid 90's. So, ..for picking an amp for my sub, ..I dont know what to look at!
Here's what I have so far (not installed yet):
Alpine cda-9886
Kinetik HC600 cell added
Hifonics 4 channel GenX Saturn
-front: Infinity Kappa 62.9i (4ohm) I plan on adding a pair of 4 ohm tweeters, in the stock location.
-rear: Pioneer ts-d602p (2ohm)
Kenwood kac-x401m
-sub: Kicker s12l7 (4 ohm voice coils), in a 1.3ft sealed box
I think the mids/highs will be alright. This Hifonics outta push the crap out of these 6.5's. I think they'll be pretty maxed out.
My freind is telling me that this old Kenwood amp, isnt going to push the s12l7, like I want it to. He says I should build a ported, tuned enclosure for it, ..and put at least 800 watts rms to it. Idk if I should look for another old school, bigger amp, ..or what? If so,...I can spend $300 on one. I just want some hard hitting, clean, bass, ..to match my loud highs. Any opinions are appreciated. Stick to old school, ..or look at a used, newer amp? Where to start?
