Help me decide please

On the power hes planning to run, the ultras would annhilate the EVL. The EVL has a weak motor, and much higher moving mass than the Ultra. Thats a recipe for low output on roughly half rated. The EVL needs a huge box as is.
Lastly, xmax is within a mm or 2, which will be negated by low power.

The Evl is an ok sub, but in this application the Ultra is superior
This is something I cannot reply to... I'm not going to argue with someone that quotes motor strength... If they are superior then apparently I bought the wrong subs... But I'm happy with mine as they are in a large box and really sound nice now... for $199 I think it is a steal.

Strap at 0.5 per amp. Whats your electrical like?
OMG... that's not what I want... so much draw that I need a battery bank... this will NOT go over well with the ol' lady... and this is in her daily driver...LOL!.. my time for chasing numbers is past... 1995 thru 1999 I had a 150 UHC 4 12" setup at 150+ then a 250 UHC 2 15" setup that went as high as 152 db... everything was IASCA back then so it was all sealed on the dash... No... I want to go LOW and loud... and this was a build done for rehabilitation issues (Severe stroke) so I made some mistakes along the way... For $1500 spent ... I think I did... meh!.. but electrical seems solid at this point as I can load a test tone and measure at the amps for 30 sec and never go below 13.6V at idle. I considered 1 ohm strapped... but I've heard of amps frying at 1/2 ohm... A QUALITY amp I'd trust... not these...

Thank you for all the replies, over the past 2 weeks of reading I am leaning more towards one 15" over two 12" (Money is not a big issue I am more scared of electrical as I am unfamiliar with it, this car is also my daily driver)

* B STOCK * SUNDOWN AUDIO X-15 V2 D2 1500W X SERIES - 399.20 (is there any reason not to get B-stock to save $150 on this?)

Twisted Sounds TS1.8KW - 399.99 / Sundown SCV-2000D - 579.00 (or maybe a different one)

40 Feet of 2/0 Welding cable - $150?(big 3 and amp wire)

AGM Group 31 Battery - $250?

Custom Box - $150 in material

=1528.20 so a bit more then budget and thats with the Sundown amp. I know i will need lugs for the wires and probably other parts I'm forgetting so figure around $1700 total.

PS - I do have a ELD(thanks honda) which I will need to build and hookup the bypass for

PSS - I am in New Jersey are there any known shops here to build a box for me? I would not mind spending a extra 200-300 for a box to have it done right if its a trusted shop.

Do look happy here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsCV_SyyyJQ ... imagine my grin if I would have bought dual 2's and loaded my amps correctly at 2 ohm strapped... at 4 ohm strapped it seems OK but that extra power at the correct loading would let me overcome box rise and power those subs correctly.
If it sounds good it is good. With those cheaper amps you may not even keep doubling power as you halve impedance, and halving impedance quadruples the current/heat that its semiconductors have to deal with, so overall I don't think you're missing too much.

Expect any amp to fail prematurely at .5. It is absolutely torturous on semiconductors. You should never do it unless you can afford the cost and downtime of blowing stuff up.

I dont exactly trust them at 0.5 either, but id still do it. I abuse equipment
Same here.

B- stock Sundown should be fine, my beef with the new Sundown is that softparts are proprietary and expensive if you break it. Also double check mounting depth on those and make sure you can even fit a 15" X in there.

There should be no audible difference between any of the popular Korean built 2K amps. Pick whichever is the best deal, the best customer service, or just whoever has a logo you like... they're pretty much all the same.

Building a box isn't rocket surgery, if you have some spare time and a place to work you can probably do that yourself. If you can't find a reliable shop, try to check out some local competitions and see who does good work or simply buy some plans and take them to a proper cabinet shop and ask them to knock it together for you. If you explain what needs doing I'd think that sort of shop should be able to make it happen.

Do the newer higher end amps double their power nowadays... The price has really kept me away from even looking... IE... my old Audio Art 100HC's each did ther 50 x 2 @ 4 ohm... 400 x 1 @ 2 ohm... 800 x 1 at 1 ohm... easily... I was under the impression that "Class AB High current cheaters" became a thing of the past when Orion's Concept 97's were rated at some ridiculously low 4 ohm rating and caused some sort of protest in competition... do the newer D class amps have similar doubling of power?.. I know they are more efficient and all today...but I always loved those 3-4 foot long surfboards rated at 50 watts... or even 25 watts... LOL!

Efficiency usually suffers quite a bit from 1 to 0.5 and they will rarely make double the power. There are a few amps, DD and IA come to mind, that are more optimized for these kinds of situations.

But as far as like Chinese boards for example, efficiency will take a major dip

So really those competition amps only changed their marketing to list 1 ohm loads... IE.. DC 3.5K does 750 into 4 ohm... years ago they would have listed the 4 ohm output for competition purposes?.. I guess the efficiency of the amps today have really changed things/
