Help! Jl w7 question........

Im not new to the whole car audio scene, but im definently not a pro when it comes to answering any questions about my system.

? -------> I have a jl w7 in a Jl powerwedge box, I am powering it with a 500.1 j amp. when i crank the bass up to like +5 on the cd player for instance or turn the volume up the sub kind of distorts alittle and basically sounds like shit.... but when i turn it down and keep the bass at like - 1 its loud as you know what. If i buy the 1000.1 with it not do this? am I possibly underpowering the sub? let me know, Thanks guys, Josh

p.s. ---> I know there are alot of jl w7 haters out there, But if i only paid 400 bucks for it with its box..... or else i would have gotten something else.......

the comment about blowing your windows is going to get you flamed , not because we hate W7's there are just better subs for the money

the reason it distors is because of the bass boost

and bam! looked at the amp, and the bass boost was all the way up, i turned it to 1/2 and it made a huuuge difference... thanks, will a 1000.1 double the proformance or just kick it up alittle........

Sounds like you might be sending the lower-powered amp into clipping.

The 1000/1 would let you run it at higher volumes with an unclipped signal.
