I'm new to the forum and its been quite awhile since I did anything with car stereo installation. Its been about 10 years since I did anything but before that I did several complete builds and have built boxes in the past also. I bought a 2016 Ram 2500 Crew cab with the 8.4 radio. The one that had everything I wanted unfortunately didn't have the premium alpine system so I have the 6 speaker setup. I'm not looking for a lot but wanted to add a little bass being it didn't come with a sub. I built a custom box that if I'm right is giving me about .4 cu ft. I have a JL Audio 8W3v3-4 sub in it which requires .3 cubic feet and takes up .03 so I'm good there. I bought a JL Audio JX 250-1 amp to power it. I'm having to use the high level inputs to run it and tapped into the rear speakers in parallel with 16ga wire and checked my Polarity so I'm positive they are right. I'm using 8ga power wire ran about 18ft to the battery and 8ga ground wire 2 ft to the frame. I've got 14ga speaker wire 3ft from amp to sub. I have the freq sensitivity set in the middle, low pass filter set at 80hz, and bass boost set at about a 1/4 so that should be around +3db. If I have the volume at 3/4 the sub is moving a little but turn it on or off I can't really hear anything. Not sure what to try and never having to use high level inputs before I attempted hooking up my phone to the low level inputs and with the phone volume all the way up its still not very good but better. The thing I found odd and its been awhile is I could hear basically a full range and the words in the song were clear. If I turn up the LPF to a higher frequency they higher freq get less muted. That didn't seem right to me. I know its only a 8" but the last setup I had built was a 8" JL sub and a Kicker zr240 amp and it sounded 10 times better then this in my memory. Also if I turn it on or off with the remote switch I can't tell a difference and the door speakers seem to be hitting harder and clearer. I'm stumped at this point and not sure what direction to go. I wish I had something better to test the low level inputs but don't really have anything that will work. When I test my high level inputs for polarity I was getting a dc mv reading that fluctuated a lot. If anyone can give me some direction I'd really appreciate it. I went 8" to save on giving up storage room but starting to think maybe I should have gone 10" with a pre package setup.
