Help! Fried first amp.

I an new the forum and also audio installation. I bought a new Kicker ZX300.1 mono amp and one Memphis 15-PR10D4 sub. I took out an old Bazooka Tube form the back of my Jeep for an upgrade. I already had a 8 guage wire hooked to the battery and an 8 guage ground in a bolt in the tub of my Jeep. Unhooked the negative terminal from my battery then wired the amp with the power/ground cables already there. Then I wired the sub for a 2 ohm load and connected everything up. It worked for about 2 minutes then fried. Returned the amp and they said I wired it wrong but sent me a new one anyway. What did I do wrong? Is it the sub? The ground? Or the amp settings? I need some help! Any help would be very appreciated!!!

EDIT: On the DVC sub I wired the + to + on the voice coils then ran ONE cable to the amp. Didi the same with the - side. Is that right to make it a 2 ohm signal? This is the only thing I can figure that is wrong unless the 8 guage cable is too small but that is what Kicker recommended for this amp. The people I bought it from said that it needed 4 guage wire. I am lost!!!

you're only running 300 watts if that... so 8 gauge is fine lol. I think you're over looking your answer. You have 1 sub. It is 4 ohm. the amp needs to be 4 ohm stable, which im sure it is since thats the most generic form of ohm loadage. actually i just looked up your amp and it says its both 2 and 4 capable. Im confused how you could wire one sub up to be different than what ohm it already is? from the terminal run the wires parallel, + to +, - to -. Then plug the speaker wires in. Im kinda confused about the power and ground set up? power needs to come straight from the positive terminal of the battery. ground needs to be connected to the chassis of your jeep, not hooked up to the negative terminal of the battery, that can fry your amp. I'm not sure I'm kinda confused by what you said but welcome to the forums lol

Actually dipshit above me, you can run a ground from your amps ground to battery negative. To the OP, you could have possibly had the sub hooked up wrong, I am kind of confused as to how you worded it. Did you turn the gain/bass boost all the way up? Honestly 4g would be optimal to run, you can get it cheap over at Knu. Is either of these diagrams how you had your sub wired?

Insults are not necessary. Power needs to be from the pos. terminal on the battery to the power on the amp. Ground can be run either from neg. terminal on battery or chassis. Chassis is preferable due to its shorter length.

To OP. 8ga should be fine. Make sure power wire is in the 12v+ terminal and the ground is in the ground terminal (obviously, just being thorough) Then with your speaker wire. Run from the + terminal on the amp to the 2 pos. connectors on the sub. I'm guessing there is 1 on each side of the woofer. And then run from the - terminal on the amp to the 2 neg. connectors on the sub. All should go well. I recommend keeping bass boost off (at least not alot plz) and set your gains appropriately. Also, your low pass filter is personal preference, however 60-80hz are good guidelines. Try not to interfere with what your front stage plays.

Edit: Also, make sure the remote wire is in its appropriate place.
