HELP! Entire vehicles voltage goes crazy when music playing at any volume!!!!!!!!!!!!

so, did the problems happen with the 4ga single amp setup? sounds like something is shorting out somewhere. make sure none of your cables are cut and grounding.
yeah. initially there was 1 amp, rockford connected to 2 12" p2's. he said that there was dimming since the very initial install.

so i have a strong thought that somethings shorting out behind the hu. cause why would music at low volume cause dimming. plus it's only when the audio is playing. we shall see.. going to start working on his car at 5...

uh, yeah. If there are smaller numbers on the other side of the dial that go to ~.3. Those numbers are supposed to help you set the gain. You would just set it to the pre-voltage of your HU. So the higher number means that it expects more voltage and would not amplify the signal the same as if you were giving it a much weaker signal.

Does it still dim with the amp/ sub totally unplugged and the wires taped up?

alright.

well after about 4 hours of ****ing around with that car we eresolved the issue..

but i will say this. it totally ****ing flipped me out. i really have NO idea as to WHY it was causing what it was causing.

i started off with removing the head unit and the DVD processor from it's mounting location. checked all the wires and adjusted a few connections. though there were no bare wires or strands that would ause the voltage to flip out.

i got to a point where i felt that the RCA's were the problem. since when we removed the RCA's the voltage would be stable at any given volume level.

well i took a 3ft rca out of my car and hooked it up. same problem. i began to think it was the DVD processor. as i tested each rca output with the rca's and got the same results.

so to continue trouble shooting i hooked up my ipod to the amps in the back to see if the amps themselves were not the problem. well... it was the amps. what i did not understand was that both amps, subs, speaker wire, power wire, grounds were all NEW. BUT this problem exsisted since the systems initial install in 2005.. which i had ruled it out initially and thought it was the HU with the problem.

WELL. we start disassembling the way the amps were hooked up. i thought maybe it was a ground that is bad. so i bring the spare battery to the trunk, and hook up the amp direct to the battery, SAME PROBLEM. now i'm like WTF!!! why would the voltage go ape shit if it's got a perfect ground and power source?? so i take NEW wire again thati had bought for my amp(which i will install tomorrow) and hook it up to the amp then direct to the battery. same problem. still puzzled as ****.

so i then unmount the sub and sit it aside and hook it up directly to the amp instead of running the wires thru the pre-fab box. well at this attempt the battery was shifted while moving the box and well my friend shorted out the amp.lol.

SOO i pull out my new profile amp from my car and hook it up the same way with the same wires we used and somehow the sub works perfectly with no issues. so i'm thinking wttf??

we then take his other amp and hook it up direct to the speaker that was taken out. all of a sudden that speaker works.. so now i'm thinking well was the first amp the problem? but how? if the problem existed even before both of these amps?

well. i take the speaker output off the amp connect the speaker that was still in the box(1is out of box, 1 was still in) when i run a test tone off the ipod it starts flipping out again. WTF?? is it the terminal cups on the box??????

i pull out the speaker from the box. test it on the amp directly and well it starts working perfectly.. at this point i'm puzzled as to HOW the **** the boxes terminal cups was shorting out the entire car. expecially for 3 ****ing years!!.. well. i rewired everything again. modded the terminals and well everything now runs PERFECT! only exception of blowing up 1 amp. so well he's going to try and get it replaced so i set him up to run 1 amp for the time being.

i will say this. never in my entire time of messing with car audio have encountered terminal cups ****ing up an entire cars electrical.

****ing terminal cups..............

wow. sucks that you broke an amp, but i'm glad you found the problem.
How were the terminal cups broken?
it's a mystery. i instpected the terminal cups and i saw absolutly nothing wrong with them. the wire mounting points were all tight and nothing crossed contact. i just don't understand what was causing the issue with them.

this is why i bypass all terminal's.. wether it's new old or whatever....

i ALLWAYS drill a hole threw an open spot on the terminal cup's, pull the sub out and run new wire threw the terminal, and seal it off with hot glue...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

another reson i do so is to make SURE that i know it's hooked up right...

sometimes it's the smallest thing's that cause problems...

i did what you did with bypassing the terminal cups by drilling a new hole in them but instead of hot glue i used sillicon. though in all of the enclosures i build i make my own terminals out of 1.5" bolts, 8 nuts, and spacers. that way i can un-mount which ever wire w/o having to remove more than needed. ya know?

very clever....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
