Help! Confused

I am looking to put me 1-12" in a 96" Accord sedan. Plan on powering it with around 400Watts. I mainly listen to hip/hop through my Ipod, or XM. I just want to be able to hear the music well inside, and don't care if anybody outside the car hears

First off, I went to local stereo that also does window tinting place yesterday, and they have tons of kicker subs. He was asking what I was looking for, and told him, HU, AMP, and possibly -12" or 1-10" . WE talked for about 5 mins or so but when I told him I was reading on crutchfield about a particular ALpine HU and Ipod cable and he basicly went said "I got to answer the phone", after the phone he just stood behind the counter reading a magazine. I looked over at him needing help, and he just ignored me so after about 5 mins I got the hint and left. I planned on getting my windows retinted. But after that I got out of the mood.

So anyway what brings me to my question.

I stopped in at a local circuit city today, and they were real helpful. I told them I was looking to add possibly 1-12" or 1-10" to my car. He ask me some quailifing questions, and we started listening to differant subs.

I really like the in this order. all enclosures where ported.

2-12" Kicker Comps, in a Kicker enclosure"

12" Kicker-L5 in a "Kicker" enclosure.

2-12" Kicker CVR in a Kicker enclosure:

2-12"Kicker L5s kicker enclosure- 2freaking much bass, more than I am willing to spend.

WE used the same kicker amp, employee said each speaker was getting a 350Watts

But I like the sound of the 2-Kicker Comps the Best. They sounded the cleanest.

The single L5-pounded real hard, but it sounded weird, I can't describe it, not distortion just weird.

The Kicker CVR, which what I was hoping to end of getting sounded horrible.

It sounded like it was rattling.

I also listened to a couple of MTX single 12"-4500, and 5500, and a set of Duel 4500 and they just didn't have the punch any of the kickers had.

I will probably end of getting my speaker off of Ebay. and building my own box.

I told the dudes at Circuit city I planned on building my own box.

The dudes at curcuit city told me to use the kicker box, because they are designed for kickers.

So I am confused, as can be. I only want 1-12" speaker. The comps sounded real good, but there was two. Sincle I couldn't here just 1 I don't know if it will be enough. but I was wanting the CVR because its a little bit better speaker, able to handle more power.

They also had a 12" eclipse in box, and it hit, clean, and good.

When you put them in a different box, they are going to sound different. You also have to take into consideration that a sound wall or demo room offers no characteristics of the environment you will get in your car. The install plays a major role in the performance you will get out of any given sub. If you have the cash to go above entry level, I would recomend it. If you like CVR's, there are pleanty of people on here that run them and have been pleased, keep your eye out for a good price and pull the trigger. Just make sure to explore other options such as Alpine or some others in your price range to make sure you make the most informed decision you can.

I think CC has the subs wired wrong sometimes. Those CVRs should have sounded better than the Comps. And the L5 was prolly being overpowered.

I have two CVRs and they sound amazing to me.

well I stopped by bestbuy on the way home last night.

They had a 12" R in a q-logic type 2 ported box. ran by a kicker 400.1 mono amp. that sounded real clean,Good, nice responce, and plenty of punch. Man that think sounded great compaired to what I listened to at Circuit City.

I can only imagine how it would sounded in a bigger, box with more power. I was satisfied the way it sounded last night.
