Help adding sub system to new car

I assume there has to be a few experts here that may be able to help me out. My new car will finally deliver in a week or two after 2 long months and I want to get a sub for the car.

Its a 2008 E92 BMW M3 Coupe. My last car was a 2001 E46 M3 and I had 3 10" JL Audio W1's and a 500 watt Alpine amp. Along with my other stereo mods it sounded pretty **** good.

This time around, I opted for the $1900 stereo upgrade which comes with 16 speakers, a 9 channel 825 watt digital amp, including 2 8" subs mounted under the driver and passenger seat. I plan on using the stock headunit because its really all part of the on-board computer system / nav system. It allows me to access the stereo via the nav screen, has a built in eq, etc... Plus I cant really add a new headunit without screwing up the look of the interior. I am hoping the stereo will be suffcient, but I doubt I will be happy with the bass.

I am thinking of adding 1 x JLW7, which is their top of the line 10 sub and should give me plenty of bass and sound better than the three 10"ers i had in my last car... I assume that is correct?

Anyway I am considering this, being my first choice (due to space) - JL W7 Pro Wedge - CLS110RG-W7

-or- the more expensive (but larger which I dont like) JL W7 Pro Wedge - HO110R-W7

Link: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_enclosures.php?menu=1&prod_id=189

From there I am looking for a good amp, around 500 - 1000 watts, but it must have a Remote Bass Port. I am thinking of one of these two... I am not sure 500 watts is enough, but I am pretty sure its plenty for that one sub. Is this correct?

First Choice: JL Audio Slash v2 500 watt x 1 mono sub amp

Link: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=439

Second Choice: Jl Audio Slash v2 1,000 watt x 1 mono sub amp

Link: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_amps.php?amp_id=440

I havent looked into car stereo equipment since I built the system in my old 2001 M3, so I am not sure these are still the better amps on the market, without going to handbuilt super expensive ones. Anyone have any better ideas?

Lastly, the Remote Bass Port, which is cheap thank god: It allows you to turn the bass up and down via a knob you mount up front somewhere. This is huge, because being able to turn the bass up or down to suit your mood, the song, etc... I absolutely must have this:

Anyway, in the end I just want a decent amount of bass, but my highest priority is the sound of the bass is super clean, no distortion, and high quality sound. Crushing bass and jamming rap songs isnt for me... I like bass, but I only like high quality bass! The cleaner the better, i hate subwoofer distortion.

Do any of you pros have any suggestions? Is this going to be wayy too much for a small car like the M3? Is this going to be way more bass than the three 10" JL W1's which are nice, but more run of the mill subs. The W7 is the best sub on the market if I am not mistaken. Will it put out about the same bass I am used to but do it cleaner and sound better?

Any suggestions on alternate products? Any help would be really appreciated!

Lastly, I have checked ebay, crutchfield, pricegrabber and even Craigs List. Anyone have any recommendations on where else I can check for a good deal? I REALLY want to keep this under $1,000 and if I can do it for under $750 I would be very happy.

I would also be willing to buy "like new" used products if any of you are looking to give me a good deal! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Anyway, please help!!!

P.S. Keep in mind I am no expert, so if you could provide links or part numbers or whatever so i can look up your suggestions, I would sincerely appreciate it! I just want to get a good amount of bass, alot when I want it, but above all I want it to be CLEAN and SOUND GOOD. Thanks a ton in advance!

If your sticking with the factory headunit the first thing you'll need is a sound processor, i don't think a simple line convertor would do it if you want "clean and good sound".

Second i'd go with a 13W6v2-D4 the W7 is what you would want if you just want that boom. The W6 gives you SQ and a 13W6 is equil to 1 12W7 so you should get that boom to and with the 500/1v2 it would do better then a 12W7 witch would need more then a 500/1 to sound happy. As for space the 13W6 needs 1.6 seald and 1.8 ported. I could'nt find any trunk space measrements but i find trunk pics and the box can go right aginst the back seat and if you know how to work a saw and drill you could build the box yourself and save money.

since its already been purchased i guess theres nothing you can do now but why spend an extra 2 g's on a stereo that you say you probably wont be happy with when for far less you could of put a nicer one in that you would of been happy with? doesnt make much sense to me.

Like I said I am no expert, but im not an idiot. For one, this is the 7th BMW my families company has bought as company cars in 6 years, so after A LOT of haggling, I got my BMW rep to sell me the car at Dealer Invoice. I got options like the $1900 stereo upgrade, premium package, etc all for free, so I took it!

Besides right now, at least from the articles and reviews I have read, its one of - if not the best stock sound in a car today. In fact it was reviewed higher than the $8,000 Mark Levinson stereo upgrade in the new Audi R8.

One of the reasons I get the upgraded stereo is because (especially in a quality car with quality stock stereo) you start out with a good basis to work with. My last car was a 2001 E46 M3 and I ended up ripping out the stock stereo.

However, if you ever get the chance, go sit in a loaded M3, with the Tech Package and upgraded stereo. Everything, including the stereo worsk through IDrive, which is a large Nav screen in the dash controlled by voice or a little mouse thing near the gear shift. Everything is tied into that system, Sat Nav, Sat Stereo, HD Radio, CD Changer and DVD - AS WELL AS controlling 3 settings for the Traction Control, the Differential, and changing the suspension from Comfort, Sport and Track.

All of those things are controlled off the one large nav screen using the IDrive mouse. I cant imagine what the hell I would do to add an aftermarket stereo.

Anyway - all that bs aside, getting the upgraded version of the stereo just means you have a better starting off point. The speakers will probably all get upgraded at some point, but ill be happy for quite awhile.

Anyway, thanks for the help peeps. I ended up going with:

1 x JL Audio W6 10" in the HO Enclosure

1 x JL Audio 500/1v2

1 x JL Audio Remote Bass Controller

1 x Rockford Fosgate RFC2D (2 farad hybrid digital capacitor)

I got everything for $1,049.00 shipped with no tax (thx internets). The car will finally deliver in about a week and a half, so the parts I ordered should be in around the same time.

Ill get it all installed, tuned, dynomatted, etc and then see if anything else is lacking due to the stock stereo. Im sure it wont be perfect out of the gate, but I think it will be a great starting point.

Thanks for the help.

my dad is general manager at a car dealership... even if he sold it to u at invoice he either stuck u in the *** with the financing and small fee's u have no clue about that are in ur payments OR he has a fat rebate comming from BMW for selling the car which is why he sold it at invoice... invoice doesnt = cost. everymonth companies have a "hot list" and if u sell a car on the hotlist you get a bonus from BMW. either way they made alot of money off of u lmao

Man this site is full of friendly people. I got a $69,875 car for $59,500. I shopped around and only two dealerships would even talk about going under list on an M vehicle. They just dont do that for M's. Five other dealerships laughed at me when I told them I had a deal in the works for getting the car at under list price. So I dont care what little costs he may have tacked on, or what his motivation was... for almost $10,000 grand savings he can stick whatever he wants in my ***.

Besides I saw the actual invoice that they pay to BMW when ordering the car. Why the **** would I care why he did it? So what if he gets a bonus for selling a "hot list" car? Go ask your daddy when he last sold a car for $10,000 off the list price. Maybe they do that at the Hyundai dealership your dad works at lmao... who knows.

Either way I got a better deal on a new E92 M3 Coupe than anyone I know of, and trust me when I say that everyone on the M3 forums was seriously surprised at the deal I got.

Now go crawl back into your hole... or your Civic... whatever piece of shit you came out of... rofl.

im sure he has money if he bought a M3.

Man don't listen to these guys. You got a great deal!!! Congrats on the new car... Just don't bash on civics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif... A lot of people are still climbing up the ladder and drive civics.

Yeah, I appologize for that to be honest. Before I bought the E46 M3 in 2001 I had a 1999 Honda Prelude SH. I have no problems with Honda, Civics, etc, I just dont like internet kiddies talking shit that they know nothing about.

Why is it that on internet forums, in almost every post, some kid has to come in and claim his "daddy" does this or that, and then proceed to tell you that you're an idiot? There is always some 16 year old out there to ready start shit for no reason, or because of e-peen jealousy lmfao. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif

Anyway, I am not a hater - i climbed that ladder too... im 32 years old now, so I take back the Civic bashing. I just had to put this little dipshit in his place.

Back to the thread - does anyone on this board have a similar set up? JL Audio 10" W6 in the JL H.O. enclosure with a 500 watt Slash v2? I am really excited to hear this thing, and curious how it will compare to my old cars set up - 3 x 10" JL w1's with a 300 watt (or 500, cant remember) midgrade Alpine amp. From everything I have read, this one 10"W6 should blow away the 3 x 10 W1's.
