Like I said I am no expert, but im not an idiot. For one, this is the 7th BMW my families company has bought as company cars in 6 years, so after A LOT of haggling, I got my BMW rep to sell me the car at Dealer Invoice. I got options like the $1900 stereo upgrade, premium package, etc all for free, so I took it! Besides right now, at least from the articles and reviews I have read, its one of - if not the best stock sound in a car today. In fact it was reviewed higher than the $8,000 Mark Levinson stereo upgrade in the new Audi R8. One of the reasons I get the upgraded stereo is because (especially in a quality car with quality stock stereo) you start out with a good basis to work with. My last car was a 2001 E46 M3 and I ended up ripping out the stock stereo. However, if you ever get the chance, go sit in a loaded M3, with the Tech Package and upgraded stereo. Everything, including the stereo worsk through IDrive, which is a large Nav screen in the dash controlled by voice or a little mouse thing near the gear shift. Everything is tied into that system, Sat Nav, Sat Stereo, HD Radio, CD Changer and DVD - AS WELL AS controlling 3 settings for the Traction Control, the Differential, and changing the suspension from Comfort, Sport and Track. All of those things are controlled off the one large nav screen using the IDrive mouse. I cant imagine what the hell I would do to add an aftermarket stereo. Anyway - all that bs aside, getting the upgraded version of the stereo just means you have a better starting off point. The speakers will probably all get upgraded at some point, but ill be happy for quite awhile. Anyway, thanks for the help peeps. I ended up going with: 1 x JL Audio W6 10" in the HO Enclosure 1 x JL Audio 500/1v2 1 x JL Audio Remote Bass Controller 1 x Rockford Fosgate RFC2D (2 farad hybrid digital capacitor) I got everything for $1,049.00 shipped with no tax (thx internets). The car will finally deliver in about a week and a half, so the parts I ordered should be in around the same time. Ill get it all installed, tuned, dynomatted, etc and then see if anything else is lacking due to the stock stereo. Im sure it wont be perfect out of the gate, but I think it will be a great starting point. Thanks for the help.
