I know nothing about stereos, so I've come here hoping to find some answers. I tried googling some of this info, but all the talk bout OHM's, watts, channels, sensitivity etc nearly made my head explode lol.

I have a Pioneer touch screen I'm installing in my car, and I have 4 Kenwood 6x8's I'm installing with them. My question is what kind of amp do I need for them, or should I even hook up an amp to them? How much louder or better would they sound with an amp? The speakers are Kenwood KFC-C6894PS, they are 3 way 240 watt 80RMS 4 OHM speakers. Are they even worth hooking an amp up to? If so what should I be looking for as far as power, ohms, channel etc?

Also, I will likely be getting some subs soon (2 10's or possibly 2 12's), Should I go ahead and get a bigger amp now to hook the sub up to later, or would a bigger amp just blow the speakers I have now (not sure if amps have a way to turn down power or not)?

They will run fine off your HU. Dont know your budget but this Precision Power PPI BK520.4 Black Ice 520W 4-Channel Amplifier could power them just fine. Amplifiers have whats called a gain to control their power output ( it is not a volume control). Read up on them, you adjust them with a DMM. Need to know more to make any more suggestions there are a lot of variables to consider when putting a sytem together. Hope this helps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

No one can advise you on what you need without knowing what you want. So what do you want? Loud as h3ll, sound quality or just something to drown out the road noise?

Also, what kind of vehicle is it and what's your audio system budget? Do you plan to install it yourself or will you have a shop do it? If you don't have a budget set already, answering the above will help tell you what you'll need to spend in order to accomplish your goals.

Thanks for the replies. Its going in a Lincoln Mark VIII. I had the speakers in another Mark VIII without an amp, it was louder than the factory speakers for sure, but I would like to get a little more out of them if possible. I dont have a set budget at the moment, but I'm not looking to spend more than say $200 for an amp to power these small speakers, and will likely being buying off amazon. I'll be installing the speakers but once I get the amp I'll have a shop install the amp and rewire the speakers (just gonna use the stock speaker wires for now). I dont need no competition system, I just want something that will sound a little better and be a little louder with no or little distortion at higher volumes, and I figured an amp might do it. I've read that when looking at speakers, you dont look at the wattage, you look at the RMS, are amps the same way or do you actually go by the advertised wattage? I'm assuming I need a 4 channel amp since I have 4 speakers? Is something like this Amazon.com: Brand New Rockford Fosgate R600-4D Prime Series 600 Watt RMS Class D Full Range 4 Channel Car Amplifier: Car Electronics a good choice or will I need something different?
