Help A Newbie

Hi guys,

So Im new to the forum and I would like some help regarding a new headunit which I'm thinking of getting as my current one really rubbish.

I found this one ebay which I really like (ebay item number: 160925782683)

I like how its made + lots of blue which compliment with my Golf Mk4 dash

What do you think about is it decent headunit? (dont care about cds as I dont use them anymore)

or few about $10 more I found a JVC KD-X30 headunit with free shipping which looks really good (I live outside the US)

as I said I have a Golf mk4 with STOCK speakers (I don't have bugdet to upgrade right now) and I am planning of buying and Edge 12" subwoofer with built-in amp

what do you think? which shall I go for?

Save up some money. You can do better with only a little bit more. A used Kenwood excelon deck can be found for well under 100, and would shame either of those headunits. Especially the first one. Don't buy that. The powered sub sounds like a bad idea, too.

You're best bet is to save a few bucks, and then look around. Gives you more, and higher quality, choices. And more time to make the right one.

Im still a noob myself but if theres anything that you should stay away from (personal experience) is "cheap" head units, when i first got into car audio i owned a ****** BOSS headunit and dam it ******, and also pyle and dual, i learned to stay away from those brands, in my personal opinion id go with the jvc or the new line of pioneer HU the DEH, the DEH-150MP and the DEH-2500, they're not blue but dam good recievers for good price

I was gonna go for the first because as I said it really looks good but I was scared since it has no brand it might be rubbish but would I really need a good headunit if I only have stock speakers + subwoofer soon? (Also I was going for a powered sub as I just want one which is cheap with decent base which could be removed easily.

this is close to $89 shipped, you can choose the lcd colors on your stereo and pioneer is reliable, im not straying away from pioneer, but thats my opinion

Looks really great but it a bit of a problem as I live outside the US and that one delivers only to the US

as far as a sub, you can buy a sub built for a small enclosure and simply mount the amp to the box, be best to put one or two rubber rings between the amp and tne box, powered subs are OK for the price, but just spend the little extra $20-$75 for a sub and a amp and you'll be golden

fairly small box man and these little guys so the job well

*NEW* JL AUDIO® JX250/1 MONO CLASS A/B 250W JX CAR STEREO AMPLIFIER AMP JX-250/1 | eBay

this should be a pretty good combo man, i dont know your budget but the crossfire subs, their 10's do really good in a small sealed box, and the JL audio amp well in my opinion really good sound quality and alot of crossover networks you can play around with to get the sound you want from your subs.

the kenwood excelon decks are REALLY NICE. 395, 595, 895 can all bad had for $100

Thank you. I found my head unit on Ebay for 130 dollars. There are deals everywhere. You just have to look for the right ones. I would choose a used excelon over any new, cheap pioneers.

And, to answer your question, yes. The hu is the foundation of your sustem. If it sucks, the rest will suffer as a whole.

That might be a bit too expensive since the shipping of the sub alone to Malta costs $100 :s my budget is around 200EUR + installation so that maybe I can get some decent speakers also but I really appreciate the links!

what do you think about the PIONEER DEH-X3500UI I found a good deal at round 105EUR and I might buy it..
