You might want to check out the AVS forums... They seem to have a great deal of understanding about every feature to every TV made today.
They usually give the Pioneer plasmas the nod for the best picture available today and Pani's plasmas having the best price/quality ratio.

For LCD's I would go with Samsung and I wouldn't want a DLP (can't stand the faded color from angles).

Might want to look at this set in the upper end of your price range.

I would wait until you find a deal that is good to you. Pick a price you want to pay, and when the tv pops up at that price, buy it. Say you buy it today, the price could go up next week, but if it goes down most places have a 30 day pricematch.

PIONEER has the absolute BEST TV's you can buy.

and the Sharp Aquos are sweet to.

SONY= overpriced

Toshiba= good budget TV

SAMSUNG= good but wont last as long

LG= not that great but can get them for LESS$$$

Samsung has always been nice, but at a high cost. I went with a 47" Phillips Plasma 1080p and couldnt be happier. Even better yet, I snagged it from Sams Club for under 8 bills. It was a special one day thing and I just happened to be there getting some Steaks for a BBQ. Walked out with a $120.00 in steaks and a new TV for under a G

reason is because if the price goes down ( which it definately may do that) you can get a price match on that which is like for 30 days or something

Out of those ones you listed, I would go with the Samsung.

Sony rocks as I have the XBR 5, but wouldn't get anything below the XBR series, which is out of your range anyway.

The Toshiba Regza isn't that bad either.

listen if you want a TV that is going to last dont cheap out and get a POS phillips or a polaroid or a westing house or a Vizo or some other shitty no name brand TV. but that doesnt mean you have to get a over priced SONY XBR ( **** a waste of money i feel bad for the people that buy them)

look into the toshiba Regza, Sharp Aquos, and the Panasonic.

do your self a favor and get it from BEST BUY...put it on their credit card so you can pay it off with no intrest and GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY...

Plasma will give you a better picture then LCD and it is better for faster moving movies video games and sports games ( and BURN IN is no longer an issue) BUT it does kinda **** with glare. in a dark room they are by far better.

with a lot of the same parts, just a little nicer for a lot more money. I would also consider visio as they are one of the leading makers of LCD displays in Japan, we just don't think of them as a large company here because not a lot of people have them. Other than that look into a sammy or a sony imo.

You Do realize Vizio is based out of Cali right, and that they're major marketing plan is the AMERICAN LCD right?

IMPO, best deal for ~$1k is going to be the new Toshiba regza line. Model 42 (or 46, 52) RV530U.

1080P, 60k hour half life, Variable Contrast Ratio dependant on source (the only thing I dont like), 60hz frame with 8ms response time. Film correction modes, and a 14bit processor with a 14bit panel, unlike sony who will do a 10bit proc. and an 8 bit panel....

Their LCD's are made by sharp and their plasmas are sisters to the Panasonic Vieras made by the same japanese company Matsushita Electric...

how is their warranty a joke?? if your TV breaks within 4 years they will fix/replace it for no charge.
