If your doing an aerial, get an amplified one to at least get a stronger reception at a closer range, and a broader range. If you find a good deal on a 1080p grab it, like I said in my above post, no sense in leavin yourself short for the future. But your going to receive in 1080i which your 720p tv will just de-interlace to display it. Distance has nothing to do with resolution, nor size. Worst Misconceptions.
Reason why I say that is because I am considering the Panasonic TH-50PX80U, which is only 720p. I like the idea of getting a 50" TV. Plus, since I am going to receive in 720p over the air.

As for the future, what if I don't plan on getting a PS3...just a regular DVD? Or do you think they are going to discontinue regular DVDs within the next 5 years?

Regular DVDs, I think, will go the ways of the VHS tape, but I don't know how long it will take. As for 1080p vs 720p, see if you can tell the difference before you drop teh monies.

I guess that is the deal....while 720p will suffice for now...the question is how long.

720p is a format that will be around for a while. It's not going anywhere. But 1080p IS a higher resolution and it is a format that is getting more popular with time. In the future, you probably will have games and moviez that will use it. The question is, is the increased picture quality worth it to YOU? See if you can tell the difference first, picture quality is subjective just like sound quality.

imho, i would sacrifice tv size for picture quality. 50" is huge. If I could afford THAT in 720p, I would step down in size to get 1080p, 120Hz refresh, and whatever other techno gizmos make for really good picture quality. But you're not me, just figured I'd throw out my opinion for what it's worth.

think if i go to CC or something and ask to watch a blueray movie on a 1080p and compare it to that on a 720p theyd do it for me? lol
I don't see why not, you're asking for them to "upsell" to you; it's to the advantage of both of you. As always, the best way to find out is to try.

My Sony Bravia 50" rear-projection 1080p is now a year old and still looks fantastic. Just as good as plasmas at my friends' houses. Blu-ray is great; it is my primary reason I purchased the TV.
