Honestly it will depend on what type of tv you want to get.... LCD I would probably get a sony xbr, Plasma - LG or Samsung, DLP - Samsung, LCoS - Sony. Budget sets I would get a Visio or Westinghouse or Insignia!

Sharp is decent, but you can get the same picture for less. Don't like toshiba televisions. Just my .02. Also, remember that you are going to need other high quality equipment if you want a good picture. Your quality will only be as good as the weekest link in your setup. You need good cables, a good source (no ota hdtv), bluray player, etc. Don't skimp in other areas or you will only be mildly impressed with your picture.

yeah im kinda torn. also you think i should order from newegg or something? it can save me a few hundred. but if i have problems with the tv i cant just go to a store like i could with CC or target. what you guys think?

oh yeah, LCD ONLY. sorry forgot to mention.

Which models in particular are you looking at. I say go with a Sony XBR... best pic quality for the price as far as LCD's are concerned. I would also look into plasmas though if you are set on a flat panel. They will be a little more pricy, but typically have better refresh rates, black levels, contrast ratios, etc.

The Toshiba REGZA 1080p is excellent. I'm typing on one right now. I have a 47" with my laptop connected to it through HDMI. Great picture and I can share my settings with you to get an even better picture.

Cons: The 60hz refresh rate is not optimal. During fast-action scenes, you'll notice a little pixelation/ loss of resolution in HD. If you can afford it, tryi to get the one with the 120hz refresh rate.
