if you had to chose between samsung, sharp, lg, sony and toshiba for a 1080p hdtv around a grand (give or take a couple hundred), what would you choose in terms of reliablity and picture quality?

The Toshiba's I've seen at work always have the sharpest picture. Just my $0.02.

id say lg for longevity lg only cause ive had 3 for a couple years now no probs

my personal opinion:

samsung - seems to be some of the most recommended, but ive never owned anything samsung

sony - also highly recommended, but ive had sony products break on me in the past, so im skeptical

sharp - had 1 or 2 sharp tvs, always worked fine

toshiba - no idea

LG - ive loved their phones for years and my parents have a 42" LG hdtv and it looks pretty (never watched hd on it though). downside is that LG is a fairly new company.

Just get the Toshiba! You won't be sorry besides no 1080p though component..

I have a Samsung DLP and a Toshiba LCD and I like both of them.
